Well, I think Micron never made a SandForce SSD, so maybe they are more reputable than Intel.

they are in their 2nd SSD, if Im not mistaken, the 1st was the m4, which was coincidentally the 1st sata 3 ssd.

They are very very reliable.

the best controller currently is the intel sc3700, which is made by intel for enterprise customers, it was launched this year, the 2nd spot is for the m500, the 3rd is the 840pro with the ocz vertex 4

SF powers most of the SSDs in the market. There are just a few exceptions:

Intel Sc3700
Crucial
Samsung
OCZ - in the new ones they dont use SF anymore, the vector and the vertex 4 use indilinnix

thats it.

SF isnt reliable, has inherent flaws in the design, it doesnt deliver a stable performance, its firmware still has bugs (albeit MUCH less than before). Simply put I dont like it, and I wont buy it

The vertex 4 has one of the most stable performance in the SSDs for the consumer market, it loses to the m500 just by hair and the 840 pro is around the same thing. Though you can guess in terms of price why the m500 is my personal choice and why I have bought a 480gb one (its impossible to find the 960gb anymore at the 600 price or at any reputable reseller)
 
Too many people with problems with OCZ, it is the first one struck out of my list even if they don't use SF anymore.

I think there are other brands with Marvell, like the SanDisk Apple uses.

But the only 2 consumer companies which seem to have never used SF are Micron and Samsung. I know Samsung is 100% their own stuff.

Yes, they had a lot of problems with the SF drives, so they just cut their losses and acquired indilinix

to be truthful there are tons of good opinions on the vertex 4, you never judge a company on the whole, just go by each specific product

I don't care if now they had the best product.

I will reward a company with a very serious record regarding their customer's data.

Well, I have been using SandForce based SSD for a long time now & havent had any issues. It is just a perception many of them have & if you experience the new Intel 520 SSD you will surely change for good! I have nothing to lose or gain out of this discussion, but extremely glad that I have made a very smart decision in choosing Intel 520 SSD.

it was never a smart decision to buy a 520 nor a 330

I think intel only gone SF route because their partner/joint venture was using marvell, i.e. crucial/micron

No way I am using a hybrid that is not standalone.

And I would only go for a standalone 5400RPM hybrid only if there's no normal 7200RPM alternative (or if it had 128GB of flash NOW).

Momentus XT succeded because it is standalone, not like the previous hybrid experiment which few people know about. And because it is 7200 RPM, it succeeded with people looking for proper performance.

So, this might be the end of hybrids for me.

SFF is probably the future on mobile specially on the ultra thin side of life

No problem with SFF only for the ultra thin.

The problem is that most people buying computers have no idea of what is inside.

Selling a non-standalone hybrid to an upgrader is more difficult.

everywhere I see its a standard sata connector for the 1tb 7mm drive, for the 5mm its SFF - 8784 which is a new SFF design

which means, the 5mm is going to be available for OEMS only

This is not about the connector.
 
In the WD drive, the hard disk part and the SSD part are separate, with the hybridisation done on the CPU by the Intel or WD driver.

It is like Fusion or SRT.

nowhere I read that

they will function in a mixture of srt and what seagate has done, but the flash is connected in an internal sata bridge in the drive itself.

yes, to function as a mixture of srt and seagate solution is very different from having to plug 2 parts in a confined space that is a notebook. it wouldnt be logical at all for WD, sandisk already sell the solution to solder some nand on a mobo for OEMs, the U500 makes use of that, series 7 as well and some others

they come with the nand on the drive, using an internal sata bridge

Yes, I understand it is merging 2 parts in an ultrabook.

I don't want SRT or Fusion.

no you dont.

its the same thing as the seagate hybrids, the nand is on the HDD.

if you dont want that dont buy it. hybrids were never a good solution anyway
