Well, I think Micron never made a SandForce SSD, so maybe they are more reputable than Intel.
they are in their 2nd SSD, if Im not mistaken, the 1st was the m4, which was coincidentally the 1st sata 3 ssd.
They are very very reliable.
the best controller currently is the intel sc3700, which is made by intel for enterprise customers, it was launched this year, the 2nd spot is for the m500, the 3rd is the 840pro with the ocz vertex 4

Seeing that Apple used a SandForce Toshiba before, and now no Toshiba anymore has also cast a large doubt on both Apple and Toshiba.
So, Seagate and WD also used SF for SSDs? I guess the playing field is even for the hard drive manufacturers.
Too many people with problems with OCZ, it is the first one struck out of my list even if they don't use SF anymore.
I think there are other brands with Marvell, like the SanDisk Apple uses.
But the only 2 consumer companies which seem to have never used SF are Micron and Samsung. I know Samsung is 100% their own stuff.

to be truthful there are tons of good opinions on the vertex 4, you never judge a company on the whole, just go by each specific product

Well, I have been using SandForce based SSD for a long time now & havent had any issues. It is just a perception many of them have & if you experience the new Intel 520 SSD you will surely change for good! I have nothing to lose or gain out of this discussion, but extremely glad that I have made a very smart decision in choosing Intel 520 SSD.
So, the first hybrid WD is shipping (the one with the SFF connector) requires a driver, as expected.
No way I am using a hybrid that is not standalone.
And I would only go for a standalone 5400RPM hybrid only if there's no normal 7200RPM alternative (or if it had 128GB of flash NOW).
Momentus XT succeded because it is standalone, not like the previous hybrid experiment which few people know about. And because it is 7200 RPM, it succeeded with people looking for proper performance.
So, this might be the end of hybrids for me.

No problem with SFF only for the ultra thin.
The problem is that most people buying computers have no idea of what is inside.
Selling a non-standalone hybrid to an upgrader is more difficult.
everywhere I see its a standard sata connector for the 1tb 7mm drive, for the 5mm its SFF - 8784 which is a new SFF design

In the WD drive, the hard disk part and the SSD part are separate, with the hybridisation done on the CPU by the Intel or WD driver.
It is like Fusion or SRT.

they will function in a mixture of srt and what seagate has done, but the flash is connected in an internal sata bridge in the drive itself.
There is an interview where WD explains it uses a driver.
yes, to function as a mixture of srt and seagate solution is very different from having to plug 2 parts in a confined space that is a notebook. it wouldnt be logical at all for WD, sandisk already sell the solution to solder some nand on a mobo for OEMs, the U500 makes use of that, series 7 as well and some others
they come with the nand on the drive, using an internal sata bridge
