The only reason I'm reluctant to purchase is that I am not in a hurry, in fact I am satisfied with the speed/performance of my MacBook Pro right now.

I'm wondering if I should buy now or wait so I can perhaps get an even better deal or if SSD prices start dropping more. I am in no hurry to buy.

How rapidly are SSD prices dropping? Over the next 1-2 years I mean.

OCZ Agility 3/Vertex 3 drives are 120 GB for $69-79. A 180 GB model is on sale today for $169.99. It is only downhill from here.

120 is too small for me, I'm trying to spend less than $100.

I've got the XT in my 09 MBP. Having the 500GB is great, but I didn't notice a big speed bump when I swapped out the stock HD. If you're not in a hurry, I'd just save up towards the full out SSD. I look forward to having all flash in my next MBP.

SSD prices seem to be in free fall at the moment. Keep checking those out daily. The cheapest recently was a Kingston HyperX 240GB for £99, which I just missed out on. Prices seem to be hovering around the 2GB for £1 level.

I recommend going for a real SSD as well, then remove your optical drive and use this hard drive caddy:

This caddy allows you to put 2 hard drives in your MacBook Pro, so you can buy a SSD and use the hard drive as data storage.
If you still want to buy the Momentus XT, go for the 750GB version, it is quite a bit faster than the 500GB one:

If I upgrade my Macbook pro (2.4 GHz c2d, 320m) to 8 GB RAM and a SSD do you think it will last 5+ years? At least compared to all the new laptops coming out.
