I have a MacBook Pro from early 2011. Nothing too dramatic as far as battery usage goes. The machine came with a 5400 RPM drive, and this is a 7200 RPM, so there is some more power needed by the drive to spin at that higher speed. So i was expecting some battery drain, but it was not anything noticeable.

The 2.5" WD Scorpio Black is usually just as fast and sometimes faster. Don't expect miraculous speed increases.

So, if I were to choose between the 500GB Scorpio Black for 109EUR or 500GB Momentus XT for 133EUR, you'd recommend the WD, right? I'm Running Lion 1.7.2 on MacBook Pro 13" 2,53GHz Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM (soon to be 8GB)

As SSDs are too expensive, I only want hybrid.

With those choices I would opt for the WD scorpio black.

Honestly, even though I can comfortably afford any 256GB SSD right now, I just don't think I need any improvement in the performance of my current machine.

I'm using a Momentus XT and honestly it's nothing miraculous but ... How fast does a computer need to be exactly? Longest application to start is Photoshop CS5, and it takes about 3 seconds ... I think I'm good as far as disk drives are concerned.
