Tried searching by theme/genre and only got iTunes results. Tried a specific title I know is on HBO and again got iTunes. Garbage.

You might be confused: Apple has announced an API for universal search that can be implemented in various apps. That API is not yet available. In the meantime, search only works on a few apps. Universal search is hardly "garbage" just because it is not yet something most developers can use.

Works pretty well for me. I do understand about theme/genre "mostly" brings up iTunes. But your other comment seems wrong.

Try...

Find Action movies on HBO. You only see HBO. Notice Divergent.

Hit menu to go back

Find Divergent.

It will bring back both. In my case I own both. So it defaults to playing on ITunes instead of HBO since on Divergent. Insurgent is only on iTunes so selects iTunes.

If I do not own something it will default to HBO instead of iTunes. Like Kingsman.

Again, it has work well for me. Trying searching on actor like Kevin Costner. Most of the movies are on iTunes and some other App like HBO, HULU, NETFLIX. Only a few on just iTunes. Always defaults to cheaper option unless you own it via iTunes.

Insurgent is now on HBO actually and that's a great example. Brings up the iTunes version only.

Tonight I wanted to find the Hitman Movies.

Tried.
Find Hitman - no luck
Find Hitman Movies - found them all

So thought about Insurgent problem

Find Insurgent Movie - found it

Then tried Find Insugent and it still found it. Not sure what is happening. But adding Movie seems to help.

Where are you located? When signed into my US iTunes account, search results show Hulu, HBO, and Showtime... with my Canadian account, only iTunes and Netflix results. So it seems to be working fine for me as well.

I'm in the U.S. It does seem to be working with other titles, just not Insurgent for some reason.

It doesn't really work with genres or themes though. If you ask for "holiday movies" for example, you'll just get a bunch of iTunes stuff.
