Hi, is it just me? When starting a search on ATV HD, the search field used to appear on an external device like iPad or iPhone. Now it doesn’t anymore. Is that feature no more available? Is there a setting on the iPad or the ATV I should turn on? For now, I did all I’m aware of. Thanks for the cues.

Have you tried bringing up the remote app manually on your IOS device? May be in your control panel.

Works consistently for me in the Control Panel On an iPad Pro.
I understand what you’re saying. I can use the remote by calling it from the Control Panel. Works same for me. But the search field won’t appear on my iPad when I initiate the search directly on the ATV when I hit the search button.

I have the remote app as a separate app. That is not being part of the Control Panel.

In my case, as I said, I am using the Control Panel, not the separate app. If you were to temporarily un-install the separate app and try the Control Panel approach, it might return the search field. Then you could decide whether the separate app is really needed or not.

I have the ATV 4K 2017, not the HD model, and my iPad Air 2020 is running iPadOS 14.8. When I select Search nothing happens until I cursor down with the remote to the letters and numbers. Once I cursor into the letters and numbers I get the notification on my iPad Air 2020 that I can use it for the Remote. Tapping the notification displays the Remote on my iPad Air 2020 and then I use it to enter text strings. So with my ATV 4K 2017 and iPadOS 14.8 it does still work. I don't have iPadOS 15 to test, nor do I intend to install it at this time.

OP, which iPadOS is your iPad running. Perhaps Apple changed something in iPadOS 15 if you are running it. I know they screwed up a lot of stuff in 15, and that is why I downgraded back to 14.8.

To put the Remote app in the Control Center, on your iPad go to Settings --> Control Center --> select Apple TV Remote.

Hello and thanks for your answer. I searched the AppStore and the Apple Remote as a separate app doesn't exist anymore on the AppStore. My guess is Apple disabled it and the only way to do searches now is to tear down the Control Panel and search from there. No more entering search directly in the ATV and the search field appears on an external device being iPad or iPhone.

My ATV is on version 15 since yesterday. In any case the "disappearance" of the search field on an external device happened suddenly when I was on 14.8. In any case, how do you downgrade back to 14.8?

Mystery resolved. Did some Google before posting but had the wrong question. Should have been this one I had this morning "Did Apple stop supporting Apple TV remote app". Answer is yes. As I said, the app is no more available on the AppStore. Guess the search field appearing on my iPad when starting a search on ATV was a function of the app. As many here said, this function works now within the Control Panel TV remote. Works fine for sure but not having to call the Control Panel was very handy. Thanks so much to you all for helping me. The participants on this forum are gold.
