This has been an ongoing discussion for a while. Search on MacRumors hasn't been good for a while. This is not an isolated issue with MacRumors. It simply has to do with the problem in searching a database as large as MacRumors is.
With the new server move, we've been having some intermittent outages due to database locking, which essentially brings the server to a halt for a few minutes.
I'm not sure why this is more of an issue on the new server than the old, but we're looking into it.
I've removed the vbulletin site search temporarily and moved to only Google-based search for the forums. It's the best short term solution while we look into alternative search tools.
