I have iTunes, the more recent version with Genuis on it. Not sure of the exact version.

    I want to:

    1) Delete the iTunes DJ playlist completely. I don't want it, don't use it, don't need it sitting there. I think it's pretty stupid actually.

    2) Delete the 'On-The-Go' playlist completely. I've deleted it from both iTunes and my iPod and it's nowhere to be found, but every time I plug it into my car that playlist pops up first. It's seriously annoying.

    Any answers?

There is no 'preferences' tab anywhere in my iTunes. I'm running OS X 10.4.11 if that helps.

Thanks, I just figured that portion out after pulling my head out of my ass, but is there any way to delete them? Hiding them is fine, but I'd really like to loose them completely.

What do you want to loose?

If it is 1., you need to rewrite iTunes, if it is the latter (2.) and you were able to delete the On-The-Go playlists (has my link worked?), then it is lost.

Or do you mean something else?

The 'on-the-go' playlist is no longer shown in iTunes (and I never had music in it), but when I plug my iPod into my car (Pioneer radio with iPod adapter) and I scroll through the menus, the 'on-the-go' playlist still comes up and tries to play, but then of course it stops since it's empty. The radio is still reading the playlist from somewhere even though it's not in my iTunes. Could it be locked in my iPod and not deletable?

You got it right, the On-the-go playlist is always there even though it's empty. no possibility to remove it from the iPod Playlist Menu AFAIK

    regards, Baguette

On-the-go is a 'feature' that no one I know (except for my wife) has ever used.

But I'm sure that someone else uses it otherwise it'd not survive as long as it has.

I thought there was a way to hide it somehow. I just ignore it...

Is it supposed to be on the iPhone? I just checked and on-the-go isn't on my iPhone. Not that I would ever miss it...

I'm seeing that now. Kind of stupid to force a file into a machine that's not used, with no way to remove it. Much like the games that come preloaded on the iPod Classic, I could care less about playing games but there's no way to remove them. I've learned to just skip over the playlist now when I plug it into my car, but it's still annoying.

I've hidden it in iTunes, but it's still locked into the iPod with no way to get rid of it apparently.

My main questions were answered though, so thanks everyone who contributed.

Actually, I think the on the go playlist that is permanently on the ipod is the facility to make the playlist and not the playlist itself. I'm not sure why your car's radio is picking it up.
