I don't trust AI search. Google's AI search results are full of false information at least 50% of the time, and I have low confidence that searchGPT is going to be any better.

As a way to aggregate information, I see this search being beneficial. Having a handful of different sources summarized and linked below is definitely helpful. That being said, you should always double check what is being said, as well as any sources being summarized.

Googles does that too, and it will summarize total nonsense and provide a link to a page that doesn’t even contain the nonsense it’s summarising. I fail to see how any search tool is useful if it requires a bunch of extra work for me to research the results to make sure that they’re not BS… 🤯

I find AI-generated summaries useful when asking questions that don’t involve bias—questions with answers that remain the same no matter who you ask are definitely AI’s strong suit.

However, AI does not have the ability to independently reason or think like humans. It operates using complex mathematical models to predict and generate text based on patterns in the data it has been trained on. Essentially, AI determines the most statistically probable sequence of words or letters given the input it receives.

When AI produces unexpected or incorrect outputs, it isn’t “lying”; rather, it is generating responses based on probabilities and patterns, not intentional decisions or truths.

Some argue that today’s chatbot AI is essentially an advanced version of the autocomplete feature we’ve known for decades. The term “AI” is often used as a buzzword. In reality, there isn’t much difference between AI chatbots today and those from 5-10 years ago, with the main distinction being their ability to browse the internet in real time.

While being told a source that doesn’t exist is clearly not how these programs are intended to work, there’s a reason they are distributed as beta software to the public.

For all these reasons, it’s important to always review AI-generated summaries, as the AI has no understanding of what it’s saying or being asked.

I might have to try this, just to see how it compares to the sheer gloriousness that is Perplexity. 👀

While I love and use ChatGPT on a daily basis the search is useless since it still somehow manages to show me cafes which went out of business two years ago. I thought this was meant to use up to date information?

A quick comparison with Google and Bing shows they are still better for searching.

Same as the other poster said, I personally don’t want anything to do with X in any capacity, so I haven’t tried Grok, but I’d be curious to hear about it, if not using it myself.

Ah well. If you don't want to utilize the utility of something because of personal issues then that's your loss.

I wouldn't call it a loss exactly, that's pretty subjective, and it's not like there aren't alternatives. But I get your point, it's definitely my choice to make and my consequences to accept.

Today I use DuckDuckGo as search engine so I can be as anonymous as possible.
Does anyone know if SearchGPT only takes my questions to train the model without linking to my identity (PII data)?
You need to do much more than that to by anonymous, lol.
