So two minutes ago, I did a search for a specific email and it would filter the item out. Now, 2 minutes later I do a search for another item and it doesn't populate anything or filter anything out. I AM STARING AT THE DAMN EMAIL IN MY FOLDER and the search feature doesn't work.

WTF is WRONG WITH APPLE PRODUCTS?!?

I do the search on my iPhone and it works. These guys sell a laptop with 128 gb for $1,200 but can't ****ing have an OS that functions properly.

Did you leave the first search in your search box if you don’t delete it when you search for something else it’s including the first search and yes it’s annoying

Same problem here. Called the phone support. Made me reboot in Safe Mode. Problem solved after the reboot. But came back just as quickly... :-(

The general rule of thumb is to rebuild the Spotlight database when Mail has trouble searching. Just follow these steps, but instead of dragging the Documents folder, drag your "Macintosh HD". Ignore the article about Rebuilding mailboxes. Those are steps to take when, for example your Inbox, doesn't show all the messages it should. Not for search in my experience.

The Mac app Onyx can also do this in the "Maintenance" section, but it has yet to be updated for Big Sur.

I've been working with Macs since 2002, and this is nothing new. Outlook relies on Spotlight indexing for this also.

I have to reboot my M1 Mac every couple of days otherwise search doesn't work in Mail.app and none of my smart mailboxes update. Anyone know how to fix this?

Interesting.

I have just come to the forum as Im getting frustrated with searching. Upgraded to a new M1 Mini from my 10yr old Mini, and Its just doesn't seem to find stuff as well.

I was so used to be able to find anything from a reference I had given, to the purchase price of an item I bought, and now it seems to be hard work. This was the biggest feature in speeding up my workload, was that finding anything only took a moment.
