i was thinking of picking this up instead of wasting so much more $$ on apples display:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...onitors+-+LCD+Flat+Panel-_-SAMSUNG-_-24001309

    what do u guys think?

also, before I buy this, i was wondering if there were any monitors that can by tilted vertically (like those HP desktops with the touch monitors i think). I use some applications that would fit a vertical screen much better but i dont want the screen to always be vertical.

    thanks

It depends on what you are using it for. The need for professional quality color, etc, sort of becomes less of an issue if the 2nd display is merely going to be used for running lower priority tasks.

In such cases where the 2nd display's only real purpose is additional real estate, any decent display should get the job done, although it's worth noting that higher quality displays still have their advantages.

Just to clarify, the picture on the monitor is tilted by OS X and is monitor independent. However, finding a monitor with a swivel stand is another thing. I don't think you'll find that feature with DELL monitors. Otherwise I don't know.

yeah im looking for monitors with a swivel stand so that i can use it both horizontally and vertically.

The resolution in the display is secondary, but id like it to be reasonable, i dont want a piece of ****

also, jm, im not sure i follow, the specs on that monitor seem almost identical to the imac display

Every single Dell monitor I've ever owned has a rotating (to vertical) stand. The entire UltraSharp line does. I don't use it very often, but it's one of the many reasons I buy those.
