Too late - Already bought a Pixel 2. I'm selling my iPhone 7 which was probably the peak point for the iPhone (the 8 being almost exactly the same).
There's a limit to what I (and a lot of people, apparently) will justify spending on a phone, no matter how forward thinking it is.
Likewise I haven't installed any internet of things in my 120 year old house, because I can switch the lights on myself. And I can boil the kettle and change the thermostat etc.

The point is - I just don't need all of this technology. Some of it's nice, but at what cost? What's the environmental impact?

Dear Apple,

We need an iPhone X-style "all screen" iPhone with reduced size and weight. Bring it back to around the iPhone 6/7/8 dimensions, or even slightly smaller. But with the larger all-screen display.

Thanks!
Isn't that what the iPhone X already is? Are you confusing yourself?

This is Apple, it only ever INCREASES prices!!

It will be a very shock move and against its business model for it to reduce manufacturing costs and pass those onto the customer!

Apple wants to become a trillion dollar corporation, massive profits will help it achieve that, that is more important to them then any price reductions to the customer.

You can expect the next 5.8” OLED iPhone to still cost ‘from’ 1000 dollars or pounds etc and the Plis model, if they make one, to be ‘from’ 1200 dollars or pounds I’d say.

Expected this, similar to when the MacBook Air came out. As manufacturing costs go down, prices will also. I expect $799 for LCD X style, $899 for 5.8, and $999 for 6.5. All starting at 64GB.

Lol, was just typing the same thought about the MacBook Air when you posted.

I also got the new Pixel instead which isn't exactly cheap either. Apple's beautiful design is missed, and having an apple watch at the gym, but I don't miss iOS as much as I thought I would.

No surprise here, the 2018 X.2 will be priced at $899 as I and others have been saying for months. Normally the 2017 X would have dropped $100 but it will just be discontinued as previously reported. FaceID and OLED tech gets mainstreamed and moves downmarket as R&D costs are amortized, and economies of scale reduce BOM cost.

X.2 Plus at $999 or $1,049. The new 6.1” LCD (iPhone 9 Plus) will be $749-$799, the 8/8 Plus $599/$699. 7/7 Plus $499/$569. 6S/6S Plus may remain at $399/$479, SE $329 if no refresh to SE2 (otherwise, SE2 at $349 and current SE drops to $299).

Apples realizing they are not hitting their goals in sales...most people are not upgrading and will not pay $1200.00 for a phone. My 6s is working fine and with a new battery soon...will be like new phone.

The new batteries are a game changer for sure. We have 6 iPhones on our family account. My wife, mom and MIL don't care about the latest and greatest. New batteries made their 6s's feel like new again. And even if they wanted a new phone, there was no way I was dropping a grand to get them an X, when they'd be just as happy with a 7 or 8.

The pricing of the X moved it from 'yeah, i'll just get the newest phone' to 'Do I really need this phone?'

The only person who got an X in the house was me. My daughter is in college and had to pay part of her phone price, so she opted for an 8.

You are correct. Read an article last week where AT&T had a buy one get one free for apple X phone. It was a bust so they stopped the promotion. Wow.

It’s why people are realising there’s another world out there for a quarter of the price do you really NEED that Animoji. That OLED screen? That Portrait mode? Really? (Whispered Answer: No. you actually don’t) Can you really justify £750 more than this fully featured dual lens 64gb costs for the draw of IOS? (Answer: No you can’t. But. You will!)

£269! Top quality product. This is not a cut down phone and competes with high end stuff today!

No longer is it the case of “What would Samsung do?” Its now “Why have I been spending so much on stuff Im only paying for for sheer vanity and bragging rights really?”

Competition is a GOOD thing. As the competitors give more value for less cash - Apple’s insistence on reducing features for more cash can no longer be assumed to work any more I’m afraid.

Er. That’s it.
£269! Have you considered the trashy components that this thing will have that will end up in landfills next year? What brand is that? How does it treat its workers/suppliers? What is its environmental impact? It's a bit insulting comparing gutter rubbish like that to an iPhone X which has selected quality components. Chances are, the iPhone X will still be working well in four years time.

Please don't compare trash with a quality product. It's like saying 'Why buy that sexy red Ferrari when my beige Ford Focus is just as sexy!'
Once you've one the X, you'll realise its quality. People need to stop thinking that these are 'phones' and realise that they are small MacBooks/iPads. Yes the X is expensive, but for me I didn't need to buy a camera, video camera, music player, sat nav, video player etc.

Wait a minute. Apple having less demand for OLED panels gave Samsung more bargaining power on the price of the OLED panels they sell? I'm pretty sure that less demand usually means the buyer has more bargaining power? Supply and demand and all that jazz....

if apple said they would sell 10 million phones with samsung display and got a good price due to volume, and ended up only selling 5 million, it would give Samsung some leverage to get a better price for the displays next time, as they can say "yeah but last time you said you would sell xx but only sold x, so we cant give the same volume discount.."

I wouldn’t say it’s “unachievable”, with carrier incentives and monthly installed payments, I would say the majority likely finance their phones in today’s smart phone industry. The majority do not pay out right for a $1000 iPhone, when its likely more manageable for monthly installed payments for the consumer.

In the USA yes but when you go to the global market things get crazy, lets take Brazil as an example, here the iPhone X costs R$7000 that converts to approximately 2100 US dollars.

For most of the population that half a year of their salary. The iPhone is usually R$3300, which is 990 dollars.

For people who are fine paying $999 for a phone, a $200 difference isn't really that big of a deal.
To me it is. I choose the 8 Plus over the X because I won’t pay more than 1.000 € for a phone. Of course I could have afforded the extra 150€, but I won’t betray my principles for Cook’s greed for profit.

A few thousand dollar designer bag has much smaller BOM, comparatively very little technological development or even "craftsmanship", even then people buy them like crazy. apple has delicately placed themselves right behind this group. and seem to be doing pretty well with it...

Er. That’s it.

Actually I can.

Seeing as how the 7 Plus, 8 Plus, and X all have better cameras, the second lens in each is a telephoto, my phone as 4x the storage space, doesn't have an "also-ran" brand of SOCs, and I like this thing called 4+ years of software updates from the mothership with no interference from a carrier or OEM (according to google, it took roughly six months for the Honor 9 to receive Oreo. Do you want to wager on if it will get P? How about Q? R?)

Additionally that phone is from last year, going by the robotphone world of release cycles.

I expect feature parity on the 2018 X.2 and the X.2 Plus.

I hope so. The main article suggests otherwise, unless I just went dyslexic.

Yup

The bulk of the R&D has already taken place for the current version iPhone X. The price will naturally drop for the next version of the iPhone X. Hopefully this does not translate to the new version of iPhone X not having any significant improvements.
