I currently have a 20" Dell monitor attached to my iMac. I would like to get something larger. I'm thinking either a 24" Samsung monitor or a 26" Vizio HDTV. Basically I use it to watch TV shows records via EyeTV, Hulu or web surfing on the secondary monitor.

Any thoughts on which way to go? Both are about the same in price.

Don't buy the Vizio, it has an incredibly low resolution because it is a 720P HDTV, which means it has a 1366x768 resolution. The Samsung has a 1920x1080 resolution which is the same as your iMac. The extra resolution makes a much larger difference than the size of the screen. I say get the Samsung.

...get a monitor that is as close to the resolution of your iMac as possible, it will make working on dual screens much easier if they are set at the "same" resolution...

Also, you want them to be on the same "line of sight" (height as possible) to make the viewing angle as close as possible...

I have a 20" iMac with an HP2009M monitor and the resolutions are very similar so it makes it much better to work than using the spare 19" Sharp I had (it also helped that I got the HP for only $75.00)...

I recently got a Samsung SyncMaster 2494 (24", 1080p). Out of the box it's a little bright and washed, but with a bit of tweaking you can get a pretty nice picture out of it. I think it was around $200 at BJ's.

If you can, maybe consider saving for the 24" Apple Cinema Display. My roommate has one, and it's just absolutely beautiful to look at. Plus, it'll complement your 24" imac.

The 24" iMac has 1920x1200 resolution. This resolution is a bit harder to find, but I appreciate the extra vertical space.

If you can wait, this year there should be a 27" ACD and/or EOL sale for the 30" ACD
