hi there,

I need some help please. Im trying to secure my pc (which has w2k and XP), and access the files on the pc through my mac, and idealy be able to open a remote connection to the pc and control it.

But i dont know how to do any of that, and i could really use some help.

thank you.

I believe it will depend a bit on how the PC is connected to the wider network - if it's stuck behind a router and assigned a local IP address, it's a bit tricky, but still doable using VNC and portforwarding (the link is about setting up a Mac as a VNC client, but the principles are much the same). Chicken of the VNC is free.

or if you've got cash lying about with nothing better to spend it on, there are more straightforward options like Timbuktu

i've followed that site, and im not having any luck :( is there a better guide?

ok i have now got it working from windows to mac, but i cant get it working for mac ot windows.

I think the problem is chicken vnc - it doesnt do anything, is there another free software i could try?

ideas anyone?

Is XP Home or Pro? If Pro, you can easily use Remote Desktop. There is a Mac client to go from Mac to PC. The other way around you'll have to use VNC. A VNC server for the Mac would be Vine VNC.

If you have XP Home or 2000 running, use can use VNC both ways.
