Does anyone else have this problem? Whether I start with 52 files in the trashcan or 10 files, when I click "Secure Empty Trash" it just gets stuck and won't get past 7 files remaining. I have to force quit the finder, and then the trashcan appears as empty.

Doing a normal "Empty Trash" gives me no problems at all. Frustrating.

Mine has gotten stuck at 6 items, during a secure empty of the trash. I could not cancel the process, and had to force a re-launch of the finder to get back to normal operations.

some of that porn is pretty sticky 'eh. :p
try rebooting, and then trying.
It is more than likely due to the file being needed.

if all that still doesn't work
easiest way is to use the terminal.
pull up a terminal window.

rm -r .Trash/

I can guarantee the files aren't needed. They can be seven 10KB readme texts, and it will delete the first three but stick on the rest when 7 files remain. I'll remember the terminal command in the future, thanks for that tip. I hope Apple addresses this in the 10.5.1 update.

I too have this issue. For me, its random when it stops working. I can always "Empty Trash" but never succussfully "Secure Empty Trash" if there are more than 1 item in the trashcan.

Hopefully 10.5.2 will fix this issue?

maybe computer sleep issue?

I have the exact same problem, and it never used to happen. I wonder if it's getting hung up because I changed the energy saving settings and my computer went into sleep mode. I'll find out soon enough - I'm secure-emptying a bunch of files now. It's down to 10 left. I'll check in in an hour.
