If I want to make a section of a website viewable / accessible by only certain people, is the server security enough?

Basically creating a server password protected area?

Are there better, pre-built php options?

    Thanks,

    Brian

Make sure to use SSH with the server security for it to be good enough.

    Well,

It's not my server, it's a hosted site. I just have the option to password protect certain directories. Just not sure that's enough.

    Thanks,

Well I'd ask your server provider then if the password protection is encrypted. The normal Apache Web Server password protection doesn't transmit the password you give in an encrypted manner, which is where SSH comes in. Unless the password transmission is encrypted I wouldn't use the password protection for anything overly sensitive or private, but still provides a basic level of security.
