Resolved Security Permissions

Recently, (in the last 2-3 months) when I received a file (PDF, JPEG, doc) via email or iMessage when I double click on the file to open it in the application it was sent to me in I get an error message " The file xyz.pdf couldn't be opened because you don't have permission to view it". But if I copy the file to my hard drive it open fine.

Is this a new Apple security feature, and can it be changed?
