ok, so I am very computer savvy however don't understand the whole network/packet sniffing kinda stuff. I do have a friend in school however who has told me a program such as Hamachi might be useful. Has anyone ever heard of it?...used it? or is anyone really able to explain what it does in english please?

edit: I was just wondering because I've heard a lot of people in colleges are getting packet sniffed and i'd rather not have any of my personal info released

A packet sniffer basicly captures every network packet it can see and writes them to a database for you to persue at leisure. This is generally not something you need, unless you're a network admin* or a security professional*. Or, I suppose if you're up for some nefarious fun and want to steal information from people.

*which clearly you aren't since you didn't know what it was.
