Is there any type of facial recognition software or security lock programs, apps? Also programs for tracking my computer if it is stolen or lost since I am a college student & take my laptop to crowded places.

So far I've found Prey, which is an open source program for tracking lost or stolen devices. Laptops, phones, etc.

Definitely install Prey, it's one of those things that you can install and forget about until you really need it. It has the ability to take pictures, lock the computer, play noises, show messages etc. so the thief will basically have a useless computer and it also tracks latest IP addresses. Seems like it would be a big help tracking down your mac, fortunately I have never had to use it before :)

Prey seems alright, but honestly, anyone who knows what they are stealing will just wipe the HDD clean or rip it out. I am pretty sure that any sort of password or recognition software can be bypassed too simply be inserting an operating system disk or similar media and booting up from it.

I suppose there's no harm in taking these precautionary steps like installing such programs, but I would certainly not rely on them. I'm not saying that such software has never been useful, but all I am saying is just keep a good eye on your stuff that has value to you and keep it secure, that's your best bet.
