So, anyone happen to know what the firmware update part of this security release does in terms of impact on 4,1 ->5,1 flashed models, and the ability to roll back to the original 4,1?

Assume you're talking about the last security update, issued today, for Yosemite?

It's a software update for any Mac running 10.10.5. What makes you think it updates or changes the firmware of your flashed 4,1 cMP?

Don't worry, I don't think Apple will release any firmware update to 4,1 / 5,1 anymore (no matter for fix or improvement). They stopped doing that for years already.

As other posts suggested, there is no firmware update for the older Mac Pros in this update. Only the 2013 Mac Pro has an update.
