I'm still a Mac novice and want to use some widgets. Is it possible to have a widget or two open (on one side of the screen), while working in Word or other programs? I'm able to bring the widgets up but when I work, they have to disappear.

    • 1. Open Terminal
    • 2. Enter the following:
      Code:
      defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES
    • 3. Press ENTER
    • 4. Log out or Force Quit the Dock process via Activity Monitor
    • 5. Activate Dashboard via the F4 key
    • 6. Grab the widget you want to have on your Desktop and drag it around
    • 7. Keep the primary mouse button pressed
    • 8. Deactivate Dashboard via the F4 key
    • 9. Voilà
    • 10. To get the widget back into Dashboard, grab the widget and move it around and activate Dashboard.

Thanks! I apologize for asking, but where does this get typed in. What do you mean "open terminal."

Terminal, an application located in the Macintosh HD / Applications / Utilities folder, found via Spotlight (Command+Space).

    Activity Monitor, see Terminal.
