Seeking NAS Backup Drive

I have a climate controlled remote building on our property that is connected via ethernet to the main house. I'm looking for a simple, ethernet equipped hard drive that I can keep in the remote building, attached to ethernet, and that will appear on the household desktops for use by my backup software, ChronoSync.

I prefer a solution that doesn't add new backup software to the mix or complicate things. I just want the NAS drive to be mountable on the home desktop for use by ChronoSync.

Any suggestions?

I don't use that particular software, but I use Synology NAS systems. They've been reliable and given good performance. Their support team has responded when I need them to. That's about all I care about with NAS.

I back up with TimeMachine for most stuff. I can mount it as an SMB drive, but there's other mounting options.

If I were to buy a simple Synology drive, like the DS124, could that be mounted on the desktop of a Mac elsewhere on the network and used by that Mac as if it were any other external drive?

yes. you have to add user accounts or allow guest access on the synology for that and activate e.g. SMB on the NAS.
Then you can mount the NAS on the desktop by using e.g. Finder’s »Connect to Server«. (Make sure that connected drives are shown there )
