I am looking for a web editor (preferably a free/cheap one) with Kompozer's WYSIWYG functionality that also has the text editing and validation checking features of Coda. I also want be able to create and link to an external stylesheet. I have some hand-coding experience but it was years ago and I don't really want to have to relearn how to do all this if the program can automate it for me. The aforementioned programs only seem to have a tool for internal stylesheets.

Back in my PC days I used to use Hot Dog and I have yet to find a Mac equivalent.

I am not sure a free version of what you are looking for exist. I looked for a free version of this when I first started years ago because I did not understand CSS nor could I write it, scratch that, I could not even write HTML when I first started :) I built some really good site though. I found a piece of software that was just like Quark Xpress for the web. I knew Quark so I picked this app up really quickly. It's not free though, but it is much more powerful than iWeb and along the same lines of user friendly-ness. I tried Dreamweaver when I first started but the learning curve back then was too high on this application since I dove in an started building sites.

1. Freeway Pro - http://www.softpress.com/

2. Currently I use Aptana http://www.aptana.com/ as my main program IT IS FREE :) with CSS Edit, NOT FREE :(

3. I also use http://www.openkomodo.com/ for quick changes FREE!

Though two and three are FREE there is a large learning curve if you are starting from scratch.

Again, going back to your question. I don't think there is anything free or as user friendly and powerful for building websites if you are just starting off. You don't have to learn HTML or CSS to start building sites, Freeway Pro.

Hope this was useful.
