Well you have solved our puzzle at 99%. There were actually two different letter S's, spelling MS Surface within all the goofy photos of Steve Ballmer.

HELP!!! I'm stuck...Updated it this morning, shows fine in user CP but WILL NOT REVERT...Have I been Ballmerised? Is somebody playing a joke? It normally takes an hour tops to change....

Haha... just clear your browser cache and you should be fine. I see your usual one myself.
This is a little strange...All other game participants have changed back, no problem. The avatar I have uploaded is not a new one, it's the same gold pulsing musical note I've been using for ages...It uploads fine, and shows up fine in my user cp settings....It just won't change..
Interesting. I've cleared my cache and see your usual avatar, but not Macman45's.
I just double-checked it, an uploaded it again which may start the refresh process again....The avatar is fine, not too big etc. I've cleared the cache on all 3 Macs, but I remain Mr S. Ballmer....Hope it works this time
Indeed. I see Macman45's usual avatar on my iPhone, but my PC still shows the Ballmer. I've cleared the cache, browsing history and flushed the DNS, yet the PC still shows the Ballmer. Both the PC and iPhone are on the same network too. Weird.

Maybe just remove the avatar altogether for a few hours and go without. Then later on, upload your usual one again.
