    Hello folks,

Basically, I have around 4000 applications in my iTunes Library, but I only want to synchronise 100 in my iPhone 3G. Well, the issue is that since several weeks ago, when I unselect several hundreds of applications for avoid their synchronization in my iPhone (they only remain unselected one time, for that particular synchronization), but... each time that I plug again my iPhone, iTunes forgets that I "unselected" all those applications and I must go through all my library of 4000 applications to unselect again (one by one) several hundreds of them.

This is very annoying, and even time consuming, because I need around one hour only to unselect all the undesired applications every time that I want to synchronise my iPhone with iTunes. And it is becoming worse because continue I downloading new applications every day.

Can anyone help me, please? Because I tried to receive support from Apple without any success and I am very worried, please.

P.S. I already several things, without any success, like:

    1) Delete all the applications from iTunes (4000 applications), and copy to it again; restore the iPhone.
    2) Reset the synchronization status at iTunes, and re-sync.
    3) Delete the iPhone backup at iTunes, and re-sync.

I had that problem once, then I realized it had to do with cracked apps.

what do you need 4000 apps for?

I have not cracked applications (neither a jailbroken iPhone). My 4000 applications are all legal applications downloaded from iTunes. (Some paid, some free)

So, my iPhone 3G and iTunes are fully legal, but... I don't know from where comes this problem neither how to solve it. :(

i think the problem is your 4000 apps. Nobody has any good reason to have that many. In all my years, i've never even had 4000 apps on my main computers.

anyway, my words to help: start a new iphone profile and consolidate your library.

Well, in fact I have 4000 apps in my iTunes because the iTunes is the software to manage them,... which doesn't mean that I ues all of the, of course; but when I see new apps that I like it, I download them. (In the same philosophy of having thousands of songs at the iTunes).

I don't want to lose my current applications, notes, and settings,... so, I cannot create a new profile and begin from scratch, because that will mean to lost information that I cannot lose :(

    Any other ideas, please?

Thanks by the new ideas, but...

    1) I am using FW 2.2.1 (latest version)
    2) I am using iTunes 8.1.0.52 (latest version)
    3) I already reinstalled the iTunes 8.1.0.52 (and all the related Apple SW like: Quicktime, Apple Updates, Apple Mbobile services, etc.)
    4) I already deleted my 4000 iPhone apps from iTunes, and I copy back all of them again to it.
    5) I already sign into the iTunes Store on my device using my computer. (I only synchronize with my Home computer)
    6) I already Restart and Resetmy iPhone 3G several times.
    7) I already Authorize/Deauthorize several times my computer.
    8) I already created another Windows XP admin. User account to check if that could help, without success.
    9) I already deleted the iPhone Backup from the iTunes and reset the Synchronization history at iTunes.
    10) I already made a restore of my iPhone 3G.

So,... any more idas, please?

I've found that problem occurs when I install apps directly to my iPhone. After I've synced with iTunes the apps are transferred but checking/unchecking the sync box doesn't seem to make a difference. YMMV.

(and seriously, dude - I think it's time to clean house! But that's just my opinion ... )

But I suppose you've also restored a backup?

In light of what mavis says in the post above (because I've experienced the same issue before), I'm inclined to think that deleting (tap-hold-wiggle-x) all the apps from the iPhone and then syncing the apps you want through iTunes might just cure your issue.

Be aware that removing the apps from the iPhone will also remove any saved data (settings/game saves,...) for those apps.

Thanks Mavis by your advice,... unfortunately I cannot delete all my applications at iTunes,... and download them again... (4000 apps!!) it is not feasible

Regarding the duplicity of applications downloaded at the iPhone (firstly), it is true, that is why I don't donwload anymore apps at the iPhone (I always use iTunes for it),... but that doesn't explain why are always selected apps in the iTunes that I never synchronise (neither download it) at the iPhone.

So weird,... jesus! I am becoming crazy! :(

I tried to do a sync, and after to made a manual Backup, and after re-plug my iPhone, but it didn't work. Yesterday, i was trying more ideas (from my mind) after midnight without any success,... so, please I need your help folks.

Basically, the current status of the problem is that I have 3900 iPhone applications in my iTunes, but by any reason some hundreds of them (not all of them) are always selected each time that I re-plug my iPhone to the PC. I tried several things without success like:

    - I uninstall manually all of my apps (116) from the iPhone (to see if one of them was creating any kind of conflict with the sync process of the iTunes).
    - I force a reset (Sleep+Home 10 seconds).
    - I unselect all the individual 3900 applications at iTunes to don't have any kind of sync. of them to my iPhone. (But with the Applications sync checked box).
    - I even decide to unselect the the Applications sync checked box to force a delete of any remaining rest of some app. in the iPhone.
    - I tried several times the trick of unselect them and force a manual Backup.
    - I even tried the sync. process without any application selected.
    - Seems that the iTunes doesn't work properly doing the sync process for uninstalling unselected apps.

Any way, each time that I plugged again the iPhone to the Itunes, all the same hundreds of applications were selected again. So, I don't know if could be any kind of corruption in some database which contains the selection of apps. for sync (I don't know where) because seems that my Itunes and/or iPhone forget my applications selection every time that I unplug and plug again the iPhone to the iTunes. It is like the apps. sync database of the iTunes/iPhone would be "frozen", and although the iTunes allows me to select/unselect apps. when the iPhone is plug in,... the next time that I plug in the iTunes comes back to its own apps. sync selection (and even selecting all the new applications that I bought in the while).

Can you help me, please? :( This situation is not manageable (is out of my control), I don't know how to solve this bug that I don't know where could be.

Well, the only other thing I can think of is that your ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library file is corrupt or something. It appears that when you select/de-select apps to be synced, it is that file that contains the info.

The path above is for Mac, I don't know where that file would be on Windows.

If you want, you could try renaming your iTunes Library file for backup purpose and re-launch iTunes.

NOTE: when you next launch iTunes, all your music + apps won't show. All you have to do is drag and drop your iTunes Music and Mobile Applications folders back onto iTunes. You'll probably lose any custom playlists/ratings and stuff, but you won't have lost any music / app files.

After restoring your music and apps into iTunes, select which apps to sync to your iPhone and see if your issue is resolved... or not.

If this still doesn't resolve your issue, you can delete the new iTunes Library file and restore the old one.

    I do hope this helps.

Yes, some of us out there have that many apps. I have 3000 and have had similar troubles. If Apple gives us 32GB iPhones/iPods, they should lets us use the space however we please. I broke down and restored my iPhone to original settings this morning and am now attempting to reload the apps that I use the most.
