Selectively Syncing Contact Groups

Is it possible to only sync certain contact groups to an iPhone? I have a lot of contacts I don't want to get rid of but that I don't need on my phone everyday.

Unfortunately not. But what I've done is created a address book group called Active contacts and put all of most-used contacts in there.

So wait, if I create a group of contacts in Address Book that of which I do not want to sync, iTunes won't give me that option?
