haha ya ... that could be taken a ton of different ways ...![]()
but it did highlight some of the dangers of carrying electronic equipment with powerful high-density lithium batteries on airplanes.
I'll give you that but that screw is way too big for any part of the iPhone 4, I can assure you. :] Belongs in an HTC phone, I'd assume.

AH it all makes sense... HTC planted their screw to cause this problem and bring down Apple's reputation![]()
As a guy who repairs phones for one of the most professional and biggest repair companies, I can tell you that isn't one of the screws in the iPhone 4. Whoever did that had NO clue what they were doing at all. There aren't even any black screws in the iPhone 4, they're all silver.
If you were then you would know that's the top most screw on the wifi antenna that measures 4.8mm in length # but hey I don't work for the biggest phone repair company I just repair them for friends!
Dudes, that inset in the photo is false color AND magnified scale. So don't be gettin' all quantitative on us.
Wow, quite a series of events there. How common is it even to repair an iPhone display at an unauthorized service center?? I'd never even think the thought, given the risks.

My above comment was not in any way intended to be an insult to Gravesplitter, Nor was it intended to be an insult to teenagers that work in the mall. I am sure Gravesplitter is a very skilled teck.
This could also happened if the user doesn't take care properly of their devices. I seen people using fake chargers, usb cables, headphones, etc and when you see the quality of this items (awful), i will definitely think twice before connecting them to my $899 iPhone4S.
Also i have seen people dont giving a **** about using their devices after getting them moist or even wet. This could also cause the iPhone to malfunction.
Accidents happens all the time, i agree that the repair shop didin't performed the job properly. And the screw on the X-Ray doesn't belog to the iPhone.
But we also are responsible in our actions, not all repair shops have the experience in all smartphones.![]()
Wait, the Australian government, not Apple, researched the issue and discovered this fault? Seems odd that Apple wouldn't have taken the device and investigated themselves... seems like they have a lot more at stake than the Australian government... then again, had Apple done it, I get the idea Apple wouldn't have released the results, just because Apple tends to keep what they say to a minimum...
What are you surprised about? A device exploded (all be it a small one) aboard an airplane.
Of course it is going to be investigated at federal government and international airline investigation level.
I for one would not be comfortable with apple internally investigating the event.
in the US, UK, your hometown?
I'll give you that but that screw is way too big for any part of the iPhone 4, I can assure you. :] Belongs in an HTC phone, I'd assume.

US, my hometown is Florida. We're all across the nation though. I guess I should have stated one of the biggest in the US and not made such a general statement, lol.
haha, stop pretending to be insightful. A) learn how x-rays work and b) go back and look at the scale on the image. It's not a 1:1 image so yes the screw looks bigger (in that image) then it really is.
Is there such a thing as an authorized iPhone repair center? The only ones I know of are the ones ran by teenagers at the mall.

This IS a design defect. No different than the one that makes your iPhone blow up when you pack it with C4, drench it in gas, then light it. When it gets really hot, shoot it with a gun.
I have tried this on several Delta flights. The airline knows about the flaw, because, they stop me every time.
that is actually a question? I have never heard that one before![]()
Flying on airplanes was never supposed to be that "safe" to begin with.
The first "flight attendants" were actually nurses, hired to aid passengers who had health issues from flying.
Well, good to know the cause was "external" (i.e. not a design flaw). Sometimes the smallest things can cause big problems...!
