Has anyone ever come across a NAS device that can create its own wireless hotspot free from any router. I'd like to set up a NAS as a plex server in my van running from an inverter or the 12Vdc supply so that I can access my movie and tv content on my iPad/iPhone on the go without using my home plex server to save on data. I have no need for it to be connected online, just sit there hosting its own wifi network. Any help would be awesome, cheers.

If you're a bit geeky, you could make your own. Raspberry Pi Model B fed off a cigarette-lighter adaptor (no inverter needed), running some open-source media-center software and a $10 USB WiFi adaptor... attach your media disk via USB and you'd be gold. Total cost would be about $50 + the disk drive and it'd run all week without draining your van's battery.

Lots of how-to's at https://duckduckgo.com/?q=raspberry pi media center
