hi,

is there an app to have things self extract into specific folder?

or is there a way to do that with one of the unzipping apps?

Does a .pkg not fit the bill? It is not exactly "self extracting", but everything needed to install into a specific folder is already included in any MacOS X system already.

edit: I should have mentioned that the contents of .pkg's are compressed, and the 10.5 version can even be packaged in a single file, so you can send it thought email or over the web without an enclosing .dmg.
