I'm considering selling my black 16 GB iPhone 4 on eBay. It has a few scratches and the mic when recording video doesn't seem as crisp compared to when I first received it, but overall it's still great.

With the money I plan to purchase a new white iPhone to replace this one since although the scratches aren't intrusive or anything, they bother me a bit.

Plus, when the new iPhone comes out I think I'll be able to sell the white iPhone at a higher cost due to it's more recent release/hopefully lower amount of scratches.

Thoughts? Is it smart to do this sort of thing or not? I sold my 3G on eBay before and started it quite low... I'm just nervous I won't get $300+. I believe it's $399 for the early upgrade (not positive) so I need at least that.

Thanks for your time!

Just looking at the first page of iPhone 4s on eBay makes me think you won't have much trouble getting over $300 even with a few scratches.

Thanks for the responses!

Yeah I didn't think I would either, but it looks like the ones that start the bidding high don't do nearly as well.

Maybe $10 is a good start?

I was planning to do the exact same thing as you OP. So I have a question...Currently my iPhone 4 has a 0.5 cm scratch on the screen, and some scuffs on the back glass. The volume down button is also not clicky anymore, though it still works. Should I get a warranty swap from Apple and then sell or should I just sell this one, which matches the serial number on my box (which supposedly fetches higher values)?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8G4 Safari/6533.18.5)

If your button is not Clicky you should be able to get a warranty replacement and fetch a higher price.

If your phone is messed up (mic problem), take it to Apple and they'll give you a refurbished one. Pretty much brand new, no scratches. Then you can sell that (or keep it) and it would probably fetch higher $$ too.

anyone know what sort of fees there would be if you were get a white iPhone to replace your current one. aside from paying for the new unit of course.

Just learned that it will cost $449. Hoping to get at least $400 now! :p

400 if you go to apple

Oh really? Awesome, I didn't know that! Thanks so much!

I can do that online for the same price, right? I don't have an Apple store near me and would spend more on gas probably. xD

Here is what the Apple store says for me
I purchased the 4 on June 23, 2010. Activated it that day at home

16GB : Black
$399.00
You may qualify to purchase this iPhone for $199.00 on:
June 23, 2011

So yes, its 399 if you have early upgrade.

When are people generally qualified for early upgrade pricing via Apple's website? Is it any different than AT&T's? I know that AT&T only gives early pricing every 6 months (correct me if I'm wrong).

so you have to wait one year from when you first bought/activated?

Cool, thanks for that info. :D Will be purchasing from them then for sure.
