Just wanted to point that out so 11 months and 29 days when the buyer has a problem you don't get an email.

....or Buyer Beware....... of (Misinformed) Seller...
Thanks again Altemose
Good to know you've got my back :)

Depends on where I end up listing it....
It seems to make sense that if I were to use Craigslist (los angeles) I have to be guided by the fact that (today) someone local has listed a brand new, shrink wrapped gen.6 Airport Extreme for $160.

Were I to list mine there - or if I found a way to do a cash-only private sale with no shipping cost involved - then that's also what I'd ask.

Bearing in mind the buyer wouldn't have to pay any sales tax (in Los Angeles it's 9% ) plus my Extreme has it's original 1 year Apple warranty+90 days free telephone technical support - that seems a pretty good deal.
(Apple store price is: $199 plus tax)

OTOH - If I list it elsewhere - where shipping costs and fees charged to me by the site must be factored in - my listing price would reflect that additional cost.

In the end - I'm perfectly reasonable. I'd be fair to the prospective buyer and fair to myself.

Also be aware when setting your price, Apple sells these in their refurb store for $169 (plus tax) and you still get the 1 full year warranty. You've got a very small price window to play with depending on where you list.

Yes....I'd already been made aware of that. But 9% sales tax in my zip code brings Apples refurb final price up to $184.21

And so.... $160 does seem a fair and good deal for both parties.
And of course - it's *not* a re-furb

List that sucker and be willing to go to $140 for the right buyer. Try to stay above $150 though.

Almost all my Apple gear has been purchased as refurbs - you can't tell the difference from new. My point about the warranty with the refurb is the one year starts from the time you buy it. The warranty on your "new" device is one year minus however long you've already had it. Anyway $160 shipped seems a fair asking price.

My price is "cash only" ie No shipping
Item still carries the original 1 year Warranty

Would appreciate any recommendations/advice/warnings with regard to selling a never-opened, factory sealed Airport Extreme generation 6.

Having never sold anything myself before - I'm completely unfamiliar with the pro's and con's of all the different online possibilities.
How might it be simplest, safest and best for me to go about this?

BTW - I'm in the US (Los Angeles)
Thanks in advance for any and all helpful advice......:)

you will get much more on here or ebay.

I got a 6th gen extreme with a current gen airport express for 120 used. I think that included shipping or maybe shipping was 10 bucks more. Fine you don't always get that deal but Ebay is defiantly a weird beast and the prices you can get fluctuate a lot.

Here haven't been very successful in selling tho seems you get good money for things and don't have to pay fees

Craigslist again no fees but are you cool with people coming over your place? I mean I am fine with it I am 6'3 and have 3 roommates that are pretty big too. :D

Thing with Craiglist is you get low ballers. Have a price that you won't go under and add 20% to it. Stay firm on that price and just wait it out. I do that sometimes it takes 1-2 months to sell something. Took me 6 months to sell by dinning set and had it in a closet but finally got the money I wanted for it. Let people know you aren't desperate for it and you aren't a crack head.

I'm not sure how to get this across any clearer....your device had a 1 year warranty that started the day you bought it. Anyone who buys it from you does not get a full 1 year warranty - they get what's left of your 1 year warranty. If you don't sell it for 6 months - the person you sell it to gets a 6 month warranty.

Just remember, a .40 cal hollow point slug doesn't really care how big you are...

The real reason IMHO to avoid inviting a CL buyer to your home is you're giving them a chance to see what else you have that they might want to come back for later on when you're not around. The couple of times I've allowed someone over were for a piece of furniture or 32" CRT television (a few years ago) that I'd already put in the garage so the buyer didn't see the living area of the house.

List that sucker .
Done!

Unfortunately(re: forum rules) I don't yet qualify to buy/sell here (haven't met 250 post threshold)...but perhaps in another hmm....5 yrs?

Looked into ebay rules/fees yesterday....
Unless I'm mistaken - they charge 10% of total sale price + shipping cost. Then PayPal take an additional 2.9% + 30cents  (what's that silliness about?)
Which brings the Seller cost to 13% of total sale price.
Does that sound right?
I think it said they refund (credit you back) 20% of postage cost if you print shipping labels thru ebay ....or something like that...
By which time I had a raging headache...and Craigslist seemed like....well, a godsend.
OTOH....as opposed to CL....there ARE other new, unopened 6th gen Extremes listed there, hence - more potential eyeballs

If I do eventually decide to also list there (is there any reason to not have it listed on both sites at same time?)....
And do you advice auction or firm price?

As a buyer - I've totally avoided ever using ebay - can't say why precisely...just a subjective, instinctual queaziness about it....so am unfamiliar with the pros and cons of auction....

Good advice...and thanks.
I notice there's no one else in my area listing a brand new 6th gen Extreme -
This may be a good thing (no competition) or a bad thing (people looking to buy or sell one - don't turn to Craigslist)
Guess time will tell....

Don't stress...
Chill.....
You have made yourself abundantly clear.
Twice!
Thank you for your input

FWIW: B&H - (an Apple authorized re-seller) advise differently.
I called to inquire after the issue was raised here the other day:
They maintain (as they keep no record of serial numbers when they sell an Apple item and the sales invoice they issue does not include it either) the Warranty begins when you register your product with Apple.
They said for most Apple items (computers, phones, iPads etc.) that occurs automatically, when you set it up online.
However - for certain items (like a router etc.) that doesn't occur - as setting it up does not involve accessing your Apple account.

Tho you may very well be correct. And if you are - my item still carries it's original Apple Warranty - just not 365 days worth.

Canny advice. And right on

Apple tracks the serial numbers they ship out and the manufacture date. If the registration date is to far from the ship date, it can be flagged and a manual registration required. A bill of sale is required for this and if it cant be provided apple will start the warranty from the date it was shipped to the retailer. This is based on a few apple products I have had in the past. Best to put 3XX days warranty remaining. The first thing I check when i buy a used item with warranty is the remaining warranty. If I was lied to then I will offer less. I will not haggle for a week or 2 discrepancy, but if 8 months of warranty is really 2 then I will offer less.

So to bring this little saga to it's (happy) conclusion and perhaps help some future seller who might be as clueless as I was when I opened this thread:

Sold my Extreme yesterday
In addition to Craigslist where I listed it initially, exactly 1 week ago - I then listed it next day in the Facebook Marketplace.
And that's where I sold it - yesterday - cash $155 - and the buyer drove quite a distance to meet me exactly where I suggested.

So - for anyone considering how to sell your gear - keep Facebook in mind.
As with CL - there are no fees - and if your listing specifies "Cash Only" - there's obviously not going to be any shipping cost.

Thanks again to everyone who posted in this thread - for all your helpful advice. I really took it all to heart and was super careful.
