well, you can buy a new glas screen, get a heat gun, and peel off the old screen, what im saying is, goto youtube, they are repairable..

Apple's repair fee is $299, so for a $499 "New" iPad I'd pay $100 for a cracked screen.

If you purchased the iPad with a credit card, a lot of credit card companies provide 90 days of accidental damage and theft protection as well as extendinng the warranty by a year.
