Selling computer - paranoid about data recovery

Has anyone ever been able to recover data after doing a 7 pass erase? I'm selling my computer and I'm a little paranoid. Are there any ways I can check to see if my data could be recovered?

Thanks, that was an interesting read. It makes me wonder why we even have the option of more than 1 pass erases, then. Especially 35 pass.
