Does it make sense to sell my iPhone 3G (eBay $300-400) before the announcement of the new iPhone, then just use that money and get the new one.. basically for free..

I have been with ATT for a year now and wondered if they would let me upgrade.. hmmm

im think about doing this..

I did that last year and was able to get the 3G for the subsidized pricing. I sold my 3G last week for $400, hoping to do the same thing.

I hope AT&T/Apple do the same as last year.

nice.

but after only being with ATT for a year, do you think I will be eligible for an upgrade? (as in not paying the full $500-600)

Nope. I believe they allow upgrading pricing after 18 months into a 24 month contract. That is unless your voice/data package is over $99 (not including taxes), then I believe it's 12 months.

Unless they work out some special deal for the iPhone 3G owners who will be no more than 1 year into their contracts, we'll see the same pricing as we have now.

$199/$299 for eligible customers, new customers and first gen iPhone users, requires new 2 year contract.
$399/$499 for non eligible customers, requires new 2 year contract
$599/$699 if you don't want any contract

Can't we all just go grab a cheap first gen iPhone and pop our sim in there to make it look like we are using a 2G?

Oh well, just a suggestion. I have a 3G from iDay, but have bought another 3G later in January of this year which reset my upgrade date. Will AT&T's system still show that I purchased the 3G on 7/11/08?

Yes. It remembers everything. It knows every phone you've ever had with them.

Cool, I'm not hoping for a cheap price just because we have 3G's already. The only reason the 3G was subsidized was because the 2G was unsubsidized. I'm not expecting anything here. I just want my iPhone for 399/499!

The co owner of my website just sold his on ebay for 700+ which is insane, but i can't go a month or so without my iPhone, so when they announce the release date of the next one i'll post mine on Ebay most likely. But it looks like a good idea to post right away if you can go without an iPhone for a bit.

Why are they going for so much on EBAY? Where did you see this?

As long as you sold your iphone and kept the data plan working, you would be fine correct?

i didn't sell it, it was the co owner of the website that just sold it. SERIOUS cash.

True, but they still are going for 300-450 on EBAY.

Will the price go down once the new one is announced? Is it worth it to sell before WWDC?

I'm thinking about listing mine on eBay.

Do you think iPhone 3G purchasers can buy the new iPhones at the subsidized price?

Will it sell for more if unlocked?

It will sell more if it's unlocked.

Chances are not good that iPhone 3G owners will get a new iPhone at a fully subsidized price.

yeah but even if we get it at 399-499, if we sold our phone for 350-450 than its basically a free (or cheap) upgrade!

I was just wondering if after the new phone is announced you will see a big price drop on ebay...

i mean, ill sell it unlocked/jailbroken/whatever.. its all easy to do..

I just sold my iPhone on ebay Monday. I wanted to do it before WWDC. It was mint and sold for 585, I also threw in 4 cases a Zagg shield and another set of earbuds, which Im sure helped. Wasnt unlocked, but buyer did request me to jailbreak it. Using a BB in the meantime. I dont doubt the new iPhone in the slightest, but now Im kind of worried about the upgrade situation because while my phone was up for auction I called AT&T and asked about upgrade options, I was told that I wouldnt be eligible for an upgrade until 18 months into my contract. Just a month before I had called and asked the same question, and was told that they would make an early exception iPhone to iPhone upgrade. The price points I was quoted were 299$ 8GB 3G 399$ 16GB 3G with a new contract and 79$ early upgrade fee. After reading this forum it dawned on me that in that month I had dropped my voice plan from 900 minutes to 450 minutes, which dropped my monthly voice/data plan to under 100$. So Im wondering if I should bump the plan back up, and if thats why the eligibility I had is no longer available. And if this would carry over to the iPhone 2009.:eek::eek::eek:
