I may be selling my iPhone 6 soon. (64GB Space Gray). I bought the phone in December of 2014. I've got a little more than a year left on the AppleCare+. I think I can get a ~$50 refund on it if I cancel. Would you say it's worth more to my resale price, or am I better off canceling the AppleCare+ and taking the refund?

Better chance of someone buying by it with AppleCare+

I see that point. It might not get me an extra $50 on price, but with all the iPhone 6's out there selling, it'd probably give me an advantage of actually selling vs an iPhone 6 with no AppleCare. Thanks.

Any other opinions or shared experiences are welcomed!

Try selling it with AppleCare. I bought mine used with AppleCare, and paid a slight premium for the phone with it.

If you do this, don't transfer the AppleCare to the new owner until they receive the phone and are happy with the transaction. You don't want to go through the hassle of trying to get it back in your name if they want to return it, or it gets damaged during shipment. Just a thought.

I thought the AppleCare was linked to the device, and not the device owner. Is it necessary to contact Apple and give them the name of the buyer?

You nailed it - didn't even need us :)

Years ago (market wasn;t quite as flooded with phone, mind you) I would offer with an withou Apple care. I simply offerd to knock $40 off the price ($10 convenience fee and added perceived value of the Apple care). I always sold it for market plus the $50 I owed on Apple care, which worked for me.

May be a slightly harder sell now that there are so many more devices out there. I haven't purchased Apple care for quite a while now though and I have saved more than enough cash to pay outright for damages, should they ever occur, on 2-3 phones, depending on the extent of damage, and still be on top.

AppleCare does follow the device. But you have to call Apple and transfer it to the new owner's name.

Well,

I listed on Swappa last night, AppleCare+ included.

Listing was approved/posted at 9:31PM

It sold at 9:40PM.

9 minutes, and I got about $50 more than I thought I might. I'd say including that AppleCare+ gave me the extra money I would have gotten if I had canceled it, AND it got my sale done in under 10 minutes, while at least two other iPhone 6's in "mint" condition were listed, and have been for days.

Thanks everyone.

How do you change the AppleCare if somebody else's name?
You don't have to do this. I just contacted Apple support on this. AppleCare+ is tied to the serial number. It doesn't matter who brings it in. If the serial number is covered, the phone gets covered.

Dude...Get the extra money. To me this would be a no brainer
