Hey guys, I'm new here and just wanted an opinion.

I put up an ad on Craigslist to sell my white, 32GB 4S on AT&T for $400. I specified that I wanted to meet in person and cash only. A guy emailed me and said he'll offer me $470 and Paypal me the money immediately. Is it safe? Common sense tells me no but I'd like to hear your opinions.

Thanks! :)

I would say that is much more than likely a scam. I never take PayPal or anything on Craigslist, especially if they want me to ship it. It is too easy for people to say they "never received" the item and file a dispute. Then, it is just a coin toss to see if you are going to get screwed out of the money or not.

I would keep waiting for a buyer that seems more legit.

Congratulations! I am from the lottery commission and it turns out you won the lottery too! Please send me $400 for the taxes and I will mail you the rest...

I promise!

CASH CASH CASH CASH!!!

Do it at a bank if you aren't good at spotting fake $$$.

Don't accept ANYTHING else on Craigslist. EVER. EVER. EVER!!!

Do not ship or give out any personal info on Craigslist. MEET LOCALLY and always DEAL WITH CASH.

Ps. Bring a friend with you when you sell it and meet at a local spot.

Thanks!

Thanks, everyone, for the responses. I told him that I won't do it. This forum is pretty cool...I might just stick around! :)

EcuadorianMami: It's tough out there! That's what happens when we try to sell it so close to launch, I suppose.

Actually yes. And like I said, my common sense told me not to do it but I wanted the opinions of others as well.

I keep getting emails from the scammers so annoying. Maybe i should hold off and wait till later before selling it.

Use common sense. Why would someone pay you more than you have asked?

I've only gotten 2 clear scam emails, but a lot of low-ballers. I listed at $400 for my 4S/32GB/white with 13-months left on Apple Care+ and I can't tell you the number of emails I've gotten that ask "will you take $275 cash." So silly.
