I read about this, it's a popular scam. I think how it works is that the cashiers check will cash, so you'll think it's legit (and go ahead and send the computer), but then in a couple weeks, some further transaction within your bank happens, and at that point they discover it's a fake and take the money back out of your account.

The moral is, even if the cashiers check seems to go through okay, it could still be a scam, so be careful and basically avoid all non-local craigslist buyers if you want to be totally safe.

yg17, that's one thing I didn't think about, they could be using someone else's paypal account. That is a possibility. I don't get the logic behind shipping it to overseas.

They want you to ship it overseas because that's where they're located. Doesn't do them much good to ship it to the actual account owner's house.

I am wondering what can I ask them to do, that a scammer won't do.
Meet you in person with cash in hand?

I've heard of some people claiming that they are traveling to the buyer's city, or have a friend there and will ship the laptop to the friend who will deliver it to the buyer and require cash for the transaction. If after that, the buyer still refuses to meet in person, then you know something's fishy.

But from what you've described so far, I can guarantee you this is a scam. I'd take advantage of the fact that Craigslist is local and only sell to people you can meet in person and who will provide cash.

YEP it is a scam, I did a few more e-mail exchanges, and it is scam. And i think they will just send an e-mail that looks like it is coming from PAYPAL..

ANyway, does anyone know what the heck are they going to do with my iBook in Nigeria!? This is so strange. Is there like a Scam-Center warehouse in Nigeria?
