How much should I ask for a 2004 dp 2.5 air cooled with the ‘rare’ nividia 6800 ultra?

And how much should I ask for the almighty quad g5 air cooled, 8gb ddr2 ecc, radeon x1900gt mac edition including replacement quad lobo, replacement dc 2.5 processor (2x), and the original pump ?

The quad is really dear to my heart. But suddently I need a workstation that support sse4.2 and vtx. (my 2.1 macpro only have sse3). I’m looking to buy a mp 4.1/5.1. This would be my last macpro... maybe forever :/ I’m broke as usual, so I need some cash flow.

If I sell one of my G5 I’l use an owc box and ship with fedex ground with insurance.

In canada theres a guy in Montreal that sell G5 quad for 1299$. His listing are usualy quite high on ebay...

Unfortunately, you might make more off parts. I don't know how much the 6800 is worth, but typically G5s are going for around $50. Your 2.5 DP you could probably get $100 and the Quad, $200 at the most.

Whoever the 'guy' in Canada is, selling it for those prices, he's ripping off unsuspecting people I'd imagine. The value of a $1300 G5 Quad goes to zero when the buyer realizes it can't run Big Sur.

If you do a bit of digging on eBay you can probably find a 4,1 for about $250 or so. That's what I paid for mine. Flash the firmware and you have a 5,1. I specifically looked for a 2009 4,1 for this reason and then flashed it.

If you search for g5 quad on ebay, hes the first one to show up. I would prefer to keep both of my machine. In Canada, 4.1-5.1 are still selling for ridiculous price (1000$ to 2500$). Wish I had keep my 4.1 that I found, pristine, in 2016, for only 300$ 😢. Enough rambling. I’l search until I find something. Its mean, but I hope apple drop support in the next macos, so people here stop asking premium for these.

You might ask @LightBulbFun to do a eBay search for you. He's pretty much a wizard at it and it's his search that came up with the listing for my Mac.

How much do you need to make off them to be worth your time? Start the bidding there, and see what happens. Honestly, G5's are probably close to rock bottom value now. Not old enough to be truly collectable or rare, but also too old to be useful to anyone that ins't a collector (most people who know what they are have one or three by now) so if you're thinking of taking home a few hundred bucks, I just don't see it. Like eyoungren said, even older Mac Pro models can be had cheap these days. My 3,1 with 16GB of RAM installed and fully functional ran me $60 a year ago. The only thing the quad has going for it these days is the distinction of being the highest spec PowerPC ever made. That is only worth so much. With the loss of Leopard Webkit updates, TenFourFox struggling to be a useful browser in 2020, and iTunes 10 becoming increasingly less friendly with online media, there just isn't much a regular user can do with it. All your media creation people have moved beyond CS4 and Final Cut 7 years ago too.

I would highly recommend trying to find a local buyer first. Avoiding $70 to ship is huge. You just might get lucky
If you end up going eBay, just list them for your rock bottom dollar and hope a couple people get into a bidding war, you just might get lucky.
Finally, what would I list them for? $60 for the dual 2.5 and $130 for the quad.

The seller must have a great sense of humour.
I despise these sellers. They take advantage of people's unfamiliarity with Apple models and the 2006 Intel transition. Vague claims about what the Mac can do and they run away, leaving the buyer with a Mac they can't use like they expected.

On the flip side, taking advantage of a customer because of the scarcity of an item in a given locale is also something I detest.

So do I. My comment was sarcastic. :) However, I also believe that a buyer has to do some research on what the item is and is not able to do before pulling the trigger. If you don't know what you're buying, don't buy it.
Totally agree. Unfortunately, most people don't/won't bother. For myself, I like to know at least something but that isn't most people. They don't care until it bites them in the ass.

Thx for the reply. This week I should put my spare 1.1 on marketplace. Instead of listing a price, I’l simply show that I accept any offer.

Speaking of people that get ripped off. I’v recently helped a guy thay bought a 1.1 for 300$ (no upgrade, dead mouse inside as a bonus). He wanted me to transform the macpro in a beast, but I was quick to lower his expectation.

Then they get no sympathy from me. I'm tired of this attitude that it is the sellers / lenders responsibility to look out for the buyer / borrower that has swept across society. People need to take responsibility for their decisions, it's not a sellers responsibility to ensure what they're selling meets a buyers needs.

All good until they realize they did so and decide not to pay or, worse, receive the item and decide to send it back. From what I've heard Ebay offers great protection for a buyer and little protection from a seller. You don't want to find yourself paying for shipping back from a buyer because they've decided they made a mistake.

Again, I agree. I do my research and don't trust the buyer. I have no idea where this belief that business (let alone people) has your best interest at heart comes from, but my own life experience proves that most people are at best just looking out for themselves and at worst actively trying to screw you over.

As Reagan used to say - trust, but verify.

Society. It's getting worse and worse as it continues to excuse buyers / borrowers from the consequences of their bad decisions.

If so (and I don't disagree), I blame it on that whole "Everyone gets a trophy!" idea. No one really loses…and therefore no one really learns. Loss and failure without someone covering for you is how we learn. Not learning leads to unreasonable expectations and then to entitlement. That results in anger and hissy fits when expectations or entitlement isn't met.

So yeah…society.

@m1mavrerick The current issues with society go far beyond commerce, especially in the last five or so years. You haven't scratched the surface.
I agree but those are discussions for some other forum. I merely mentioned this as a number of people, including the person I responded to, stated they despise the seller when, AFAIK, the seller isn't doing anything wrong.

Sure - it's not illegal or anything to try to sell something at a grossly inflated price but people are still entitled to hold their opinion on the matter.
They're entitled to their opinion. But I disagree when someone attempts to hold a seller / lender accountable for the ignorance of buyer / borrower. Asking a grossly inflated price is not illegal nor would I even consider it unethical. If someone pays that price because of their ignorance then that's on the buyer.

I have seen those listings. That guy needs to lay off the meth if you ask me.

I’d pay $100-150 for a working quad. More if it’s got maxed out 16GB ram and a decent GPU.
For any other G5 I wouldn’t spend over $100. Usually no more than $50.
