I believe the behavior changed either in 26 or 26.1 but at least the send button changes to blue when you start typing in the subject field or the body of a message. But in 26.2 on my iPad that Send button (arrow) remains greyed out (top right of the screenshot) regardless of where you type. The button functions, the email will be sent, but it appears as if it’s an un-selectable item. I’ve checked my wife’s iPad on 26.1 and as soon as she types in the subject the button turns blue, but in 26.2 on my iPad it remains grey no matter where you type.

Strange. I'm currently on iPadOS 26.2 beta 1 and not getting that issue... it turns to blue when I type in the subject line...

This could be just a me issue. I’ll sit with it for now, maybe a couple restarts or force quit of Mail may bring it around. If not I’ll hope for some improvement down the road.

Interesting, I just checked again; I have dark mode set to kick in at 5pm. When I began an email the send arrow was dim, but, as soon as I typed into the subject field it became bold. Still doesn’t turn blue but it did obviously change, where in light mode it just remains grey. There are a lot of visual issues with this software so this could just be one more.

Oddly enough I just emailed a web page to myself using the Share icon and selecting Mail. As soon as I typed in the necessary fields, the Send arrow turned blue. However, in the actual Mail app starting a new message the arrow remains either greyed out in light mode, or bold white when in dark mode. I’d say this is definitely a Mail app bug.

This continues in the latest beta of 26.2. Again, quite oddly if I use the share icon to email a web page or some other item, the send arrow turns blue as soon as the send-to address and subject are filled in. Only the main Mail app has this issue.

I spoke too soon. 26.2 caused the loss of the send arrow turning blue when using the Mail app, but using the Share icon and selecting mail, the arrow would turn blue once a send-to address and subject were filled in. In the latest beta build of 26.2 they’ve now made the greyed out send arrow consistent in both cases. It no longer turns blue at all when using the Share icon, matching the behavior of the main Mail app. I guess that’s progress?🤷‍♂️

Naturally, you've submitted feedback, yeah?
Oh yeah. Except, as usual, no other reports noted. It’s quite frustrating as 26.1 brought a host of new problems, primarily with Safari, and 26.2 added this while fixing nothing. I am really counting on iOS 27 to make my M5 feel like a top of the line device instead of one with a struggling processor.
