I want to buy someone an app through the App Store. Both I and this other person has an Apple ID but I don't see any "gift" icon anywhere in the App Store app which I've read should be seen to allow for this.
Has anyone here given another person a Mac app through the App Store and can share how it's done?

Are you sure it's not a free app? Free apps, even if they include in-app purchases, don't have a gift option in the share menu. You'll see it for paid apps only.

Yes, both I and the other person is in the same country and we both have Apple IDs.
I've used my Apple ID many times to both buy and download apps for free. Never had a problem with that.
I'm not trying to give a free app, and this is the options I get if I click on a paid app's "down arrow" icon:

And here's the same options I get when I actually enter the same app's info page:

NOTE: Affinity designer is just an example! I get the exact same options in any paid app (actually it's the same for free apps too). And yes -I'm logged into my Apple ID account while in the App store.

Has anyone here successfully been able to buy someone else a Mac app from the App-store?
Alternatively, is it possible to buy a gift card and have the recipient use that to buy the app when logging into the App store with their Apple ID?

How interesting that it's not showing the option to buy. Check your account to ensure your payment method is current too. You can give a gift card by email by clicking on your account icon and selecting Send Gift Card By Email. Hope that works for you.

Yes! I got that idea after posting and tried it by going to the Apple website (scrolled down to the bottom of the page where it says "Gift cards" under "Shop and learn").
After the recipient redeemed the gift card it was a simple matter of buying the app the usual way.
But it still puzzles me that there's no "Gift" option to be found.
Do others here see that as an option alongside all purchaseable apps?

Agreed. Seems like buying a gift card is the only way to go...

But the question still remains: are others here seeing a "gift" option in the app store, or is it missing for everybody else too?

I think ApfelKuchen answered your question already. It can't be done on a Mac.

You're right. I read through the rest of the article a bit too quickly, assumed "Send a gift from your computer" meant to gift Mac apps.
Glad a solution was found in any case :)
