I had gotten a blue Dyson during Amazon Prime Day last year. It worked great but now even after buying a new filter for it, it smells like wet paint and now gives me a headache whenever I use it. It’s vastly overpriced for what it is.

I’ve tried low cost Vremi filtration units and those smell weird after a few weeks of use, too. They smell so bad I thought a cat pooped outside of the litter box. Imagine my shock to find out it was the filtration unit in a room the cats aren’t even allowed.

So far I’ve only had good luck with Levoit ($119 no WiFi) and cheap Honeywells that were sold as a pair.

I also had an expensive Medify Air. Only one out of 4 units shipped to me was assembled properly. That one started malfunctioning after a year and a half. There’s a known sensor issue. And replacement filters are ridiculously expensive.

I’m sticking with Levoit. I have asthma and allergies to cats and dogs but insist on having cats and dogs, so these filters (and nonstop vacuuming and laundering) keep me comfortable.
I have yet to have problem with smell with it (only has it less than 2 years) but the software side of Dyson's is .. atrocious to say the least. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone until that's improved massively.

My vocolinc pure flow is great, integrates with homekit solid app and good controls. Covers my whole ground floor. Would suggest anyone looking at a homekit purifier check it out

Do any of these things work with dust? My understanding is that because dust itself is larger that it mostly settles so air purifiers have a harder time picking stuff like that up. Just living on the ground floor in a city, my apartment gets really dusty easily.

My Levoits that are in the room with the litter boxes definitely filter out a lot of dust. My Honeywells (small inexpensive cylinders) do a fair job but they have only two settings and one is way too low and one is too high. The Levoit Core P350 Pet has 3 settings that are better calibrated. I see there’s a new model that has an app. I don’t necessarily want apps for the ones that simply are there to keep litter box dust under control. They’re set to high or medium and left to it.

Where I want an app is for the one in my bedroom. That used to be the Dyson until it suddenly started giving off noxious wet paint type fumes.

The cost of replacement filters needs to be factored into my choices, especially with ones filtering litter box dust out of a room. Levoit and Honeywell have been the most reasonable so far.

I ordered Sensibo Pure last week. I was quite impressed with its ease of setup. Homekit is an added plus. Nice design. Very happy with it so far. Filters at $30 for 6 months seem reasonable. Geofence function is really cool.

Does anybody know of any portable AC units (preferably with heating support also) that integrate with HomeKit?
Sensibo also makes adapters to add HomeKit functionality to portable and window units. They must have an ir remote to be compatible. GE makes a window unit that is HomeKit compatible. But they do not do stand alone portables.

Yeah I don't really trust that an IR-interface is going to work well. There's no way for the device that is smart to actually know what the IR-based appliances settings actually are, it's all just guessing. I'm gonna wait a bit longer I think.

I hear you. They are also a little pricey. I wanted a portable with HomeKit. My portable I leave on the same mode and temp all of the time. So a simple smart switch was my solution.

few people know the difference between air purifiers and ozone generators, even including many manufacturer, if you want to know details, please attention to following content

1. Air purifiers filter solid pollutants (PM10, PM2.5, and other solid particulate matter) and gaseous pollutants (ammonia, volatile organic compounds TVOC, etc.) in the air
2. The ozone generator is used to generate ozone for sterilization, deodorization, mildew removal, etc.

The difference between the two is as follows

1. Air purifiers are mainly used to filter pollutants in the air (including some bacteria)
2. The ozone generator is specialized in producing ozone to kill bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms

Why can air purifiers be easily sterilized?
When the air purifier based on the principle of static electricity and ultraviolet light works, static electricity will ionize oxygen in the air to generate oxygen atoms, and oxygen atoms and oxygen quickly generate ozone, while ultraviolet light, with a wavelength of 100-200nm, photolyzes oxygen to generate oxygen atoms, oxygen atoms and oxygen. Quickly generate ozone, which is the principle of ozone sterilization in air purifiers. Note that the ozone concentration here is particularly low because of the way it is generated, so the air purifier can only reduce microorganisms and bacteria in the air, which cannot meet the standard of sterilization. The air purifier works continuously for 24 hours in a specific environment and is tested at a distance of 50mm from the air outlet. The ozone concentration cannot be greater than 0.05ppm, which is the national standard of ozone concentration for air purifiers in China. (In the air, the concentration of ozone is 1ppm=2.14mg/m3)

The core difference: Air purification is mainly to passively filter the air through physical means. When the indoor air does not flow through it, it has no effect. Ozone-type air purifiers, ozone is the active sterilization of gas with the flow, which can sterilize any corner, and can Deodorant.

When buying an ozone air purifier, pay attention to choosing suitable ozone quantiry according to the size of your room, space or car etc. Usually for car, refrigerator for food presevation, bathroom, ozone machine's o3 production 3mg/hour is enough

thanks for this, unfortunately I got an Air purifier to take care of dust but it doesn't do that. As in its name , it purifiers the "air" but as dust settles it doesn't do much there.

Honestly, I feel no difference before and after installing it. I trust it kills the 0.3 microns or whatever, but is that even harmful in the first place? idk, people were living indoors for a long time and every seems to have just as much life expectancy and health.

Does this ozone generator kill mold around the house?
