And they sent it back activation locked to someone else's iCloud account!

I sent back a phone that was wiped clean, and they told me that it was locked and they wouldn't pay more than $50 for it. So i told them to send it back and it was locked to an apple id that is not mine.

Thank goodness I bought it from the apple store and had the receipt.. Called apple and they are working on it for me.

Yikes! Pretty scary that something like that can happen. I was about to sell a phone for my friend on there last week. Don't even know what I would do if it came back locked to someone else's iCloud account. How does that even happen if they never sold it to anyone?

Is the serial number the same as the one you sent in? I'd be really interested in hearing if apple would unlock it since you have the original receipt. I hope they would.

Gazelle is in the business of selling used devices.
How and why would they icloud lock a device that they received from someone?
Then the phone is useless and they can't resel it and make a profit from this users used iphone.
Doesn't make sense. Probably more into this story....

I've sold a lot of phones to Gazelle and never once has this happened to me. They always give me the quoted amount and Mail my check out within one week of inspecting my phones. Not saying this didn't happen to you. Just that it sounds odd given Gazellels good reputation.

I called apple because all I could access is the imei. They matched the serial on my receipt to the serial of the phone that came up connected to the imei. I sent them the email copy of my receipt and they submitted it to the supervisors to be worked on.

The phone was sent back to me, and when I tried to get into it, the phone said it had been locked to an apple id that is c_________@yahoo.com

I don't use yahoo and my apple id is at gmail. I am the only person who has ever used the phone.

This is the third device that I have sold to gazelle and I have previously never had any problems. I was shocked that this happened.

How would this icloud id get enabled then in this wiped device that you just send them?
And if they do it themselves then they will lose money and waste time mailing you back a useless phone that they can't sell.

I have no idea how it happened. If it was my id I could just log in. My husband's id is at gmail and it's only two of us in the household. I just wanted the money from the phone and instead I got a headache.

Employees can screw up, purposely or not. I've had stores not want to offer exchanges even though they were in their policy and only corporate got me the exchange I was supposed to receive. IDK. This doesn't seem that crazy to me.

I just sent back three phones to TMO, was told to put them all in one box with the UPS label they sent me, only to call in last night to be told they should have been in three boxes and they also ova eno record of receiving the phones (despite me having a UPS tracking number stating it arrived 10/1). It happens. These companies are working with tens of thousands of phones. I am still waiting for a call back from a supervisor to handle my issue.

I literally just mailed off my price locked 128GB 6 Plus to Gazelle earlier today and this post makes me sick. I've never used them before. Oh man.

Gazelle is great. You won't have any issues. The iPhone 6 Plus was my third phone I've sold through them.

Somehow, my 6+ got icloud locked to an @yahoo.com address too. Don't ask me how, no clue. Apple rep said someone got ahold of your phone. Ok, if you say so. Had to email a copy of my purchase receipt, and they unlocked it for me.

Sounds like someone at Gazelle is testing these phones and entering this information. I see no reason why now 2 people would have sent in phones and both came back locked to a @yahoo account.

i agree - ive sold several iPhones to Gazelle - never had a problem

I think apples trade in program will give up about $375 for a 6 plus 64gb but gazelle would give about $285.

Am I missing something?

You are correct! I ended up going through the apple program instead, no hassles and more money. I am very satisfied with them.
