I guess this is a good argument for waiting to have sex until marriage...Or at least, until the DNA test comes back.

how will being married help anything ... (not that i don't agree with it..) ... these people were married and didn't know they were siblings...

I thought that upon getting married, they somehow stumbled on their records and thus discovered the truth. But there are no details in the story, so it was merely my head trying to make sense of things, I guess.

Awww, look at the ad I got while viewing this thread. Don't they make a cute couple?

When I opened the link there was a picture of Bush and some other dude!
Best post ever!

What is really the big deal that two people who never grew up together , sleep together and the find out they are genetically related?
I think most incest issues come from people who were raised together - these two were complete strangers, who just happen to be siblings.

Ok having a child could be interesting - since they are not identical twin there is not that huge DNA issue there.
But having sex?
I really do not see that big a deal - they are not really in sibling-type relationship

Agree partly with the above, they weren't raised together so I don't think any of the incest laws should apply. However they shouldn't have kids since their although DNA isn't identical is still too similar.

Come on they're in love. Turn a blind eye! What's the chances the marriage has been legally annulled but they haven't told anyone?

Kinda what I was thinking, worse things could happen.

reminds me of a strange film called oldboy

except maybe the fighting, blood and violence

Wasn't there a movie like this?

No, Julius Benedict and Vincent Benedict didn't fall in love with each other - they just found out they were brothers and tried to find their birth mother. ;)

I couldn't imagine finding out my wife was my twin. That would destroy me for life. I can't imagine how they are both continuing on with their lives after this - I know I'd probably be in a mental ward if it happened to me.

... that is true because in a way we all related to each other and have the same "parents" so to speak far down our collective ancestry line so this couple just happens to be near the nub as far as genetic diversity goes so it's not really a big deal if you think about it in this manner scientifically, (as an adjunct there are cultures where distant cousins can marry and it is not considered taboo) although because the genetic diversity of their offspring is close to zero that would be a complicated matter to deal with and since they did not regard each other as siblings the accusation of incest would be wrongly labeled against them and our society seems not to be accepting of such a precarious situation which only came about through the tinkering with nature such as artificial insemination, anonymous sperm donation and restrictive laws on the concealment of personal information as it relates to adoptions, etc...

Unlike a bad breakup or even divorce, I think it would be very hard to spend the rest of your life having gone through this and not thinking about the other person.
Yeah, imagine losing the love of your life......but instead of losing her to death or something, she just walks away unwillingly.

So do you think they should continue having sex? ;)

Yes.

having a child... well I would suggest genetic screening first.
Its not like they have a sister-brother emotional relationship

do they want to stick together? I havent seen anyhting with their views on the subject.

edit: And I don think this is for real - urban legend.
otherwise the media would be all over the two people.
its too much he said, he heard from ...

Umm do you really think that the majority of people nowadays wait until marriage to have sex?

"consumated their marriage" isnt that a little archaic ?

not really really, but consummation is a term still used. not archaic at all.

which closet have you been in? :)

I can't imagine they'd want to continue the relationship. I'm sure they're both devastated (after all, they both lost their soulmate) but at the same time, I don't see how they could knowingly ignore the fact that they're brother and sister.

I'm sure there are plenty of phycological issues associated with such an event (assuming this is in fact true).

I feel so sorry for them both, I doubt this won't happen for atleast another 10 years, in the uk atleast, in the southern states of the US this wouldn't class as news, more of a bragging right...
