Hi,

I have no idea what might cause excessive writes to SSD. I disabled spotlight in terminal and there is over 70 GB written to SSD which doesn't match up with amount of data written by processes. Might be some hidden process?

update to beta 7. Besides that: 70Gb written in what time interval? on what Mac btw? And for the protocol: wouldn’t be surprised if this is FB Messenger doing something - remove it from the system, check again.

Sorry, my bad. It’s latest beta 7. It was written in nearly 3 days.

That's very good...don't worry about it! my M2 MBA (2TB/24Gb RAM) has written 140TB in 579 days, that's an average of just over 240GB per day. SSD life status is 2% used.

Read this 147 page thread to learn more. My usage is more than some and less than others. I am a home user who does not do anything unusual except perhaps more installing migrating etc than most.

Don't waste any time looking for single or main causes...there are many. Some people believe it's all about swap but with 24GB RAM my MBA hardly ever swaps with my usage.

NB % SSD life used is proportional to drive size. ie my 140TB would not be 2% on a 256GB drive. But note there are people with small drives with petabytes of usage, and plenty of life left.
