iPod serial numbers

does anyone know whether the serial number on the back of an ipod should match the serial number on the box - is this a unique number specific to each ipod

The serial number is unique to each iPod. I don't have my box in front of me, but if the serial is printed on the box, it should match the number printed on the back of the iPod.

They should match yes.
If they dont; was the box still wrapped in plastic when you bought it?

cheers guys, the numbers do match - I sold mine which was still sealed and had it returned because it was faulty - just wanted to check that I hadn't been ripped off with someone's substituted dud ipod
