    Hi,

I'm wondering how I register my laptop for Applecare if my serial number says "Systemseumb" in the About This Mac window?

Systems that have their logic boards replaced get a new serial number with it, but mine only says "Systemseumb." I bought Applecare in order to get a longer warranty on it, since I've had a lot of issues with it.

Do I register it under my old serial number?

Does System Profiler report the samething? If so I would phone whoever (hopefully Apple) replaced the logic board, and have them sort out the problem. Make sure the information can be confirmed by someone at least one level up the chain, since it's not uncommon for the lowest level of customer service to just make up something to get you off the phone.

    Hi,

I know I posted this thread like 5 minutes ago, but I just decided to register AppleCare under my old serial number and take the risk. :D

Wow, I'm more impatient than I thought.

@Bearbo: There are lots of MacBooks and MBPs that have a serial number that says "Systemneumb". It's just some weird serial number that people with new logic boards get. I figured that they probably just erased the new serial number from the logic board itself, which is why the weird "generic" serial number is displayed. After all, the original sn is always displayed in the battery compartment, so that even with a new logic board, you still have the same serial number as before.

Or that's my logic.... Not sure. TO LATE!! ;)

About this Mac and System Profiler read the serial number off of the Logic Board. If the repair Technician did not reprogram the logic board with the old serial number then it will not display in the OS.

You have to read the serial number physically off of the computer, or on the box it came in. What type of computer do you have? Most laptops have it under the battery except the iBook which is under the keyboard.

I just had the logic board replaced on my Macbook that I bought last August. It also has the serialnumb... issue in the system profiler. However, the repair technician removed the sticker under the battery!!!! What am supposed to do? How do I get applecare if I can't find the serial number?

I had my logic board replaced back in February, and same problem. Is there anyway to input the serial back into the os or do I have to live this way?

Anybody know the answer as to how to get AppleCare when the sticker under the battery has been removed?
