I have an original space grey Apple Watch Sport whose screen popped off a couple of weeks ago. Doing some research, it sounds like it could be battery swelling. Everything is still working so I don’t want to move anything to check.

What are my options? I’m seeing online at Apple it’s $200 for out of service repair. $79 for battery replacement. Are these reasonable for such an old watch? Would I be ok waiting for everything to open and taking it to a store so they can assess?

I’ve looked at prices of a new Apple Watch. I don’t know if it’s worth that much for me. This one was a gift and while I enjoyed it and found it useful, I don’t know if it’s that useful.

You can get a new Series 3 for as little as $199. The Series 3 works a lot better; I wouldn't put any money into a Series 0 at all.

There is absolutely NO justification for repairing a series 0.

Your best option is to either find a deal on a newer used one or to bite the bullet and buy a new one.

Or....you could live without it. Your choice.

Yeah, I just looked at S3 prices. I was hoping to get a SS one but looks like that’s not an option, at least used.

Will Apple take the S0 as a trade in? I don’t know if I’d sell it online in it’s condition. And I just wouldn’t want to deal with that.

Can you even get service on the AW0? I am surprised it hasn't been declared vintage. I wholeheartedly agree on the recommendation to not sink any more money into this device and instead either look for an inexpensive older model unit or wait for a sale on the newer ones.

Apple's "vintage" date is 5 years after last date of manufacture. The model was discontinued in September 2016, so manufacture likely stopped 2-3 months before that. So, repair should be available.

In a similar way, a couple months ago the screen on my S0 Apple watch popped off. I glued it back on with a few small drops of "The Gluesmith" glue (thick version), and it has looked & worked fine ever since. If you're careful, gluing the screen back on with a superglue-type can't make things worse if your battery isn't the cause, and should let you hold out while subsequent models drop in price or newer models become available.

No, Apple will not accept a first GEN Apple Watch for trade-in. Even if they did, you wouldn’t get anything more than $10 for it. (My local Apple stores, do not accept first GEN watches.)
