I currently own a 38mm Space Gray Series 0 I bought at launch in 2015. I love the watch but am having issues with performance and battery. I am trying to decide if upgrading now would be worth it or to wait until Series 4 is released and upgrade then. Currently the battery has been down to 10% by then end of the day with usage being only notifications and most of the time I only view and don’t respond to them. Mostly anything I do is slow and it makes it hard to use. Other reasons to upgrade is I have always wanted the 42mm and a silver aluminum/stainless steel model. I don’t have a large budget and am considering the Series 1 but am not sure if it would be worth it at this point as it is getting older.

Anyone in the same situation or have any advice?

I’ve had series 0, 1 and now 3.

The biggest jump is from 0 to 1 in terms of CPU performance. 1-3 was noticeable but much less so.

So if money is a concern a used series 1 would be worthwhile, and you’d still be able to sell your series 0 so the cost would be minimal.

Having said that, series 3 is only 2 months old so its a long wait with your current watch before 4 comes.

Depending on your finances I would definitely upgrade the choice is just whether to go for a 1 or a 3.

I think in order for you to upgrade to the Series 3, I would ask yourself what usage do you want out of the watch? If you're somebody that just uses the basic functions for the watch, Series one should be able to meet those expectations. It Still has an upgraded processor and would likely still see two more years of watchOS support.

Otherwise, you can still find sale prices on the Series 2 Apple Watch Sport model, which includes GPS, brighter display and water resistance as well.

I, too, have a Series 0 that I bought in July 2015, and it has been ticking along just fine, but I started getting a little antsy about wanting to update. Battery life has been getting poorer and poorer the last several months in particular. After I bought the iPhone X I began thinking more seriously about a new watch, and gave into temptation when Apple announced and made available the Spicy Orange sports band. That did it..... So I went to the Apple store and came home with a new Series 3 Space Black Stainless Steel watch with black sports band, and am VERY happy with it. It IS a lot faster than the Series 0, which I noticed when doing the software update as well as in general everyday usage.

I plan to keep my Space Black link band on the new watch and will use my older watch for swapping around bands if I buy any additional ones aside from the Spicy Orange. (In my experience it's much easier to swap sports bands or some of the others than it is the link band!) One reason I decided not to wait for another year for the next update was that I was concerned that Apple might make some design changes or possibly even stop making the Space Black stainless steel watch. I love it and the matching (already discontinued) black link band so much that I wanted to be sure to get that watch while they are still available.

I think if finances are a consideration that probably going from Series 0 to Series 2 might be a better bet than going to Series 1, as there would be greater longevity and more features and functionality in Series 2 than in Series 1.

I bought a SS series 3 and am not concerned about next years model. I’m sure it will serve my needs for the next 2-3 yrs as my series 0 did. Whatever changes come with the next version I’m sure it will include an iOS update that will further enhance the series 3 as each new software update has done. The series 3 can only get better next year in my opinion.

Thank you all for the replies. It really helps a lot. Now to decide on Series 1 or 2...

The big differences with the Series 2 is the water resistance 50 m, brighter display and GPS. They both share the same processor.

The price difference from Apple between series 1 and 3 is 70$ in Sweden. I can't see any reason buying a series 1 today.

Yea go with a Series 3 - the performance is well worth it - this is a watch you won’t be wanting to upgrade any time soon - the Series 1 or 2 you’ll feel that itch again real soon.

Have to agree. I had a Series 0 since launch and loved it. I decided to go ahead and upgrade to the Series 3 and, wow, a huge difference I think. This is the watch that finally makes it more convenient to use instead of pulling out the phone for many uses. I sold my Series 0 for $150, so the price difference wasn't huge.

I went to Target last night and picked up a Series 1 42mm. They are on sale for $50 off. My budget isn’t very high and it would have been an additional $120 to go for the Series 3.

I am very happy with my purchase! It performs much faster than my Series 0. For notifications and quick interactions, it will serve me well for some time! It’s also nice to have a different color and size, makes it feel even newer to me. I also like how it looks the same as Series 3 so it doesn’t look old!

Happy for you but until Apple uncripple the music player my series 0 watch will largely remain in battery save more. All it’s good for these days.

I just sold my Series 0 42mm Space Gray Aluminum yesterday for $95. Was that underselling? Probably. Was I happy to be able to purchase a lightly used Series 2 SS w/ Milanese Loop for $355? Definitely.

Am I the last men standing here? I will not update before watch4 rolls out. My watch has features! I only lose half a day to wait for it needing a recharge. That means I habe twice the fun charging it! Twice the fun waiting for it to load anything or start up. In conclusion its twice as good as a Series 3. Hell I will be disappointed with the fun factor of the next iteration.
