For me, more sensors.

Something that can measure anxiety, then ways to combat it, would be extremely useful.

You?

no intention im fatigued by the uninspiring lack of innovation current annual releases need something innovative to warrant an upgrade over ultra2 come to that my 14 pro max only reason to upgrade currently would be some new and innovative concept just like when the original iPhone came along apple watch came along airpods2 came along . AI isn’t an innovation

Still using an Ultra 1.

Ultra 3 with one or more of:
* New health sensors
* Satellite communications
* Apple Intelligence integration
* Longer battery life

And I'd likely get that.

There is one CLEAR answer that would make this the best-selling product in Apple history: continuous laser-based glucose monitoring...
It's certainly been demonstrated as possible in the lab, and Apple have looked at this in the past. But getting someting working in the lab, at arbitrary size, power, and cost down to something that is appropriate for the watch...

The more feasible answer would be much better language understanding. This may require an additional mic in the watch case, and will certainly require a beefed NPU capable of running larger language models. I, for example, frequently tell my watch something like "When I get home remind me to xyz", and while the recognition of the xyz part is adequate, it's very far from perfect.
I believe that the stripped down NPU on the watch SoC is essentially a quarter of the standard Apple ANE (4 Neural Cores rather than 16, probably also a shrunk Planar Engine) and it's the ANE from the A16 so two years old.

Still using an Ultra 1. For me, it would be more health functions, especially hypertension detection. If this is not in the cards, only a mix of larger screen with smaller bezels and significantly longer battery life (50% more +) would make me upgrade. Faster SoC, etc. would not be enticing enough.

Ultra 1 owner. I plan to upgrade this year mainly for blood pressure monitoring, fresh battery, and stuff like double tap / on device Siri.

Ultra 1 owner here. I would like blood pressure monitoring and just some more standalone features like replying to emails.

I would like to see a better HR sensor that worked is cold weather. I doubt there will be any leaps in tech for the Apple Watch for a year or two. Blood pressure and sugar sensors are still a way off before they are going to pass medical standards.

In the family have versions series 4 on up. I have an ultra 1 with oxygen and a black ultra 2.
For me it would be hypertension monitoring, additional medical monitors
Batter battery life- 5 days would be a dream
Not as thick - although since I bought the Milanese band. It’s the most comfortable watch I own

Those are the big ones. If Apple did the above it would be an instant purchase!

Meh, probably nothing. I have an AWU and it's been fine, but as I've gotten more into running/fitness I find it lacking quite a bit. I'll most likely switch to something else soon(ish) like a Coros or Garmin until Apple figures out their battery life. I can't understand how they want to market a "do it all" type of watch when mine barely gets 48 hours of usage, and that's with screen off/no background app refresh and the brightness turned down.

weird. my AWU gets 3 days of battery life minimum.

same here 3 days with regular daily workouts, usual notifications usual daily calls, sleep tracking. 4 days if i don’t do any workouts and stuck indoors because of the weather or waiting for a delivery . i don’t turn anything off defeats the object of owning an ultra 2 dont use betas either anymore since september 2024 they are notoriously heavy on battery drain . mines a September 2023 natural titanium ver with still 100% battery health . only innovation will motivate me to go and upgrade at present the ultra2 is the perfect all round smart watch.

I have an Ultra 1 as well - best marathon watch I've had - No issues no mater if it's race day, 30K long run or any in between - just top up the battery before going to bed so it's 100% when going to bed every day sleep tracking and ready for the next day.

A little different take. My Ultra is great. If they ever change band mounting, however, I will buy the current model at the time and keep it a few more years. I have too many bands to switch now!;)
