Thanks for sharing. This shows a design flaw or your watch case is defective as the “cosmetic” damage is on the back of the watch.Mines not a year old and looks like the back has been though a war.
From other people posting here and other sites, most of the JB watches seem to be peeling at the back. As someone else mentioned. It can be the paint reacting to sweat. Thanks for sharing. This shows a design flaw or your watch case is defective as the “cosmetic” damage is on the back of the watch.
Not a jet black series 10 user but I agree that it’s important to maintain the condition of your watch by doing a wipe down on it as recommended by Apple, regularly (even swapping out bands) and working out. I even used to pop on a case a few times on my watch when I took machining class and I do a clean down after I took it off.It is definitely an issue to some extent as another user here has exactly the same problem with tiny chips on the back surface of his watch.
Mine is thankfully in great condition and I don't generally clean mine after exercise and doing chores, but I also don't sweat a hell of a lot. Hoping I don't see this issue in future as I tend to keep my Apple watches 4 or 5 years. Apple definitely need to address this as I doubt its just happening to 2 users here.
As Inmentioned earlier. I keep my watch and case clean. I’ve owned Apple Watches since series 2. And this is the first one I have this problem. Not a jet black series 10 user but I agree that it’s important to maintain the condition of your watch by doing a wipe down on it as recommended by Apple, regularly (even swapping out bands) and working out. I even have a dresser drawer filled with screen cleaning sprays to wipe down my Apple devices.
jet black finishes are surely sensitive. the iPhone 7 of its yesteryear folks were in the same boat.As Inmentioned earlier. I keep my watch and case clean. I’ve owned Apple Watches since series 2. And this is the first one I have this problem.
It is the paint job, not the care. And people with other colors are not experiencing this issue.
Upgrading is the only solution. It keeps happening.Late to the party but I had really bad chipping on the back of my jet black Series 10 after about 6 months of ownership. I’ve owned a S2 and S7 before that did not have this issue after many years. I took it to Apple and they replaced it. I recall the tech looking through some internal handbook on his iPad and finding some notes about this problem which is why they replaced it under warranty. Now that I’m hyper aware of this issue, I’m noticing that my replacement has started developing some really small chips around the band removal buttons. I’m going to take it in to Apple to flag this issue because I think it’s just going to get worse over time. It’s making me think about upgrading even though it’s not even a year old.

And now Space Gray is back
