Starting to look more like a Fitbit. I’m still rocking a series 5 and wonder if I should just run it into the ground instead of upgrading. I like the rectangular look.

Are the bezels thicker than the S9?

Yup. Bezels are back to Ultra level. Which is incredibly disappointing.

Will there only be one size with 49mm like the Ultra? They didn't mention a smaller one did they?

49 mm is the height of the Ultra case. Look at the picture above … the S10 case looks like maybe 46 mm (while having basically the same size screen). And yes, it looks like we lost the smaller model.

Lost the smaller model? What about people with smaller wrists who can’t wear the big watches?? That’s mental if true. Surely that will limit its market.

“Apple Watch starts at $399”… Like 41 mm Series 9… So there will be a smaller size. Take it easy.

Losing the 41mm feels downright anti-woman. I was upset when they made the Ultra in one massive size, now they do it for the base line?

I guess I keep my series 9 until it dies. Extremely disappointed in Apple.

ETA: I stand corrected, there is a 42mm version. Phew!

There were three women in the announcement, all wearing watches. All their watches looked weirdly gigantic. To be fair at least one of them was wearing an ultra, but even the one who definitely wasn’t looked dwarfed by her watch.

I finally upgraded to Series 9 on Prime Day ONLY because my Series 5 wasn’t getting to watch OS 11 (big letdown), and now I love my Apple watch like it’s my new favorite product again. I'm sad I didn’t wait to get those new health features and the speakers that could have been added to the Series 7 but I took a loss to get the Series 9 at a discount.

You have to be feeling pretty great right now...Series 10 is not a straight forward step up from Series 9. An S9 at a nice sale price is a significantly better value proposition!

The watch definitely looked thinner on the wrists of the keynote speakers. I dig that. But did they really increase the bezel size a bit? Disappointing if so. I was hoping they'd push the screen even more edge-to-edge.

Series 4-5-6 44mm to Series 7-8-9 45mm: Increase of 17% (officially Apple spoke of 20%). This was the real step forward.
Series 7-8-9 45mm to Ultra 1-2 49 mm: Increase of 3.7%.
Ultra 1-2 49mm to Series 10 46mm: Increase of 3%.

From Series 7-8-9 45mm to Series 10 46mm there would be an increase of approximately 6.7%.

Smaller sizes:

Series 4-5-6 40mm to Series 7-8-9 41mm: Increase of 19%.
Series 7-8-9 41mm to Series 10 42mm: Increase of 9.5%.

Series 4-5-6 40 mm: 759 mm²
Series 4-5-6 44 mm: 977 mm²

Series 7-8-9 41 mm: 904 mm²
Series 7-8-9 45 mm: 1.143 mm²

Series 10 42 mm: 989 mm²
Series 10 46 mm: 1.220 mm²

Ultra 1-2: 1.185 mm²

I measured the screen of my Series 7 (45 mm) and it gave me about 31 x 38 mm (1.178 mm2). Apple talks about 1.143 mm2 and that's because of the rounded corners. So I think these are indeed the numbers to start from.

Apple also talks about "up to 30% larger screen" on Series 10 compared to Series 6. Let's see what we have...

Series 4-5-6 40 mm: 759 mm2
Series 10 42 mm: 989 mm2

Here we have it... 30% bigger screen... And what happens with the large model?

Series 4-5-6 44 mm: 977 mm2
Series 10 46 mm: 1.220 mm2

About 25% increase.

But, as is clear, Apple omitted the comparison with the 7-8-9 series because talking about a 6,7% larger screen does not sell as much. In general, I don't like the way Apple deals with percentages of improvements and other numbers.

And I think that photo answers why. It seems they’ve standardised the screens between the Ultra and Watch. And next year when the Ultra 3 drops they’ll both get thinner bezels at the same time.
Not sure how you mean "standardized" – the screens are not the same size or resolution.

Ultra / Ultra 2: 410x502 px, 1185mm²
S10 46mm: 416x496 px, 1220mm²

I can‘t quite understand how we get 2,5% more vertical pixels in a case that is 2,22% larger vertically (45 —> 46) – but the bezel looks bigger? Something doesn‘t add up here …
I don’t think the oled bezels are actually bigger. It looks like they pulled the body back more, and the glass rolls over the edges more, making the bezels appear bigger.

The distance from visible display edge to case outer edge appear to be the same.
